    Dear all

Call me stupid... I cannot install the software for my Canoscan N650U scanner on XP!

I think I have found the correct download file (poetically named n1220un650uxp571cen) from the Canon website. I downloaded and unzipped it and got a folder with some files. I tried clicking on all the application files without getting anywhere! :cry:cry:cry

I know that I have the correct driver because when I plug the scanner in the USB port, it is recognized and it starts (i.e. it makes some noise). What I am missing is the software to actually scan. I tried to see if I could use Picasa or VLC to scan but apparently not. I do not have Photoshop.

If I understood well, this very nice and perfectly functioning scanner doesn't run on Windows 7 because Canon does not support it anymore. This is the stupidest thing ever! Who is talking about sustainability if we have to trash machines simply because the driver is not updated!! Crazy world...

Anyway thanks to all geeks for your help!! :)

    Sylvie

    thanks for your suggestions.
OK I got the Scangear software but when I tried to scan I got the following error:
Unable to open the Twain source. Please check the connection and restart the Toolbox.

It seems to be a Twain problem :major. I installed IrfanView and tried to scan with it (it's free! ;)) and got the same error. :cry:cry:cry:cry:cry:cry

    keep it coming guys!! :drool

    Cracked it!! He He! :-D:-D:-D:-D:-D
I once more uninstalled the driver and reloaded it from here instead of there!

Basically both the US and the Europe Canon sites point to a faulty driver! Had to detour to Oz to get the correct one! Isn't that sick?

Anyway thanks MajorGeeks for your support!

    how embarrassing... :-o
I managed to scan 2 images then the error message came back...
From what I read here and there some people manage to run it on XP. So did I before but on another PC.

Anyone out there has a suggestion?
