Can't access any folder (malware) Please HELP!!

    Hello guys!

    Hi Chaslang! ITs me again, i'm back with another problem but a friend of mine problem. Just arrived at his place to work and out of a sudden, i downloaded an mp3 file to listen and i saved it under My Documents. Then i decided to Double click ok My Documents to OPEN and everytime i want to open the folder, everything in my desktop disappears for a 5 second and back as normal but still can not access the my documents folder.

    Also i've tried to access any other folder that i have created in my desktop and the same thing happen, all disappear and comes back to normal but still can not acces any windows folder.

    Although i can launch any software normally like Cubase or Ccleaner etc..

    I went and want to follow the Read and RUN RULES as you always told me to do first and when i get to the point that i am supposed to go and show Hidden files, I can not because i CAN NOT ACCESS any folder!

    Any hlep would be much appreciated!

    Not sure what you downloaded ...but I would do a system restore to before you did that.

    Hey TIM!

    UNfortunately, the computer System Restor point was Disabled, so i can not go forward. I just came back from Safe mode and Run Spybot and Cclean and reboot and the problem still persist when i log back into windows.

    Do you have any idea what this can be please? I'm starting in an hour a studio recording session and i need to be able to access my Folder.. if you can help, please let me know!!

    Appreciate a lot!

    Right click My Documents / properties / general ...what are the attributes?
    Then click on security ..what user names and what permissions?

    If we have to ...you'll have to do the Read and Run First and attach the logs.:(

    Second thing to look at ...control panel / folder options / view ...reset all folders.

    Just did what u asked me to do about the Folder options and did not change anything. The problem perist. Eerytime i click in a folder, everything disappears in desktop and comes back right after 5 sec.

    PLease HELP!!!

    Right click My documents and choose explore ...does it open?

    Does this happen on all user accounts?

    I suggest you start the Read and Run ....this probably isn't going to be resolved in an hour.

    Well when i am in Safe mode under Adminostrator, everything works well. But in admin there is almost nothign installed. When i open his computer in safe mode again under his name CAROL, where everything is installed, all works well, folders open etc..

    Now question for you, can you like work in Safe mode as you were working in normal mode in windows?

    I'm gonna try to follow the REead and RUN!!

    You can work in safe mode ...but many drivers will not run in safe mode ....so some of your periphials will not work.

    You should find all programs if you hit start / explore in the admin account in safe mode.

    Can you access admin account in normal mode and do things work? (use explorer to find your programs ...or open the c drive and find them).

    Hello Tim!


    HEre i am back, I can see all progrma in Safemode as you said but once again as you already said it also, inSafe mode some drivers are disabled etc...

    I did clean everything in Safemode and now back in normal mode and the problem still occurs. Can not acces any folder. I'm sending you here the Log file from HIjackthis!!!

    This is exactly where we tell you not to put HJT:
    C:\Documents and Settings\Carol\My Documents\Download Files\hijackthis\HijackThis.exe
    It needs to be in C:\Program files\HijackThis\analyse.exe ---> note it is renamed.

    I also will need the ShowNew and GetRunKeys logs.

    Fix the HJT installation and then:
    Run HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    After clicking fix, exit HJT.
    Now

    1. Download this file - Combofix.exe
    2. Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
    3. When finished, it will produce a log for you. Attach this log to your next reply

    Note:

    Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.


    Attach the logs for:
    ShowNew
    GetRUnKeys
    HJT

    Hey TIm!

    Here is the log files as you requested them.. thank you once again for your help. By the way i did all this in Safemode because i had to move the Hijackthis file into program files .. only way.

    Here are the logs i have: Hijack and Comofix, the showNew And get RunKeys don't have them..

    I just reboot in normal mode just to see if i can axcess the folders and nothing YET. Problem still there

    I'm gonna reboot back in safe mode and will wait for your next steps. Thank you

    What is the risk to do this? BEcause right now my friend can not allow himself to try this right because he is in a middle of recording aND MIXING SESSIONS. If you don;t mind, i will wait a bit and may be worst come to worst, redo a COMPLETE installation back..

    The repair install will not remove anything ....none of the files or folders ...or malware ...but it may give you a chance to do some cleaning.
