Can't access any programs from my desktop

Hi,
when my wife is logged in she can't access anything!
Everytime she clicks a shortcut she gets a window that asks her what program she wants to use to open it. Absoloutley nothing works from her desktop or from programs in the taskbar. Including McAfee!!!

When I log in under my user I have no problems.

Recently we have had a view browser hijack problems, with some spoof program teeling us it is part of windows security centre , carrying out scans finding loads of errors and requesting us to register anf pay $49 to get a full version to clean the computer. Got rid of this by using adaware, S&D, Crap cleaner, Comodo system cleaner and McAfe in various combinations. It took for ever to sort out the system and now i have this problem.

Running windows XP, Mcafee all in one, Internet explorer and Microsoft Office 2007 withh all the extras.

Please can anyone offer any advice?

Then you may want to do this:
READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide

and attach your logs when you start a thread in the malware forum.

Thanks for your help, the 9th file cured my problems. I realise, now, that all the executable files had been changed from *.exe to *.sce. No idea how this has occurred, and why only on one user?

Anyway thanks again I will now digest the malware removal guide

Yes, you may need to just run the scans on that user account. Once done, start a thread in Malware and attach the logs. Then have patience for us to get to you as we work oldest to newest.
