Can't access other computer

I can't access the shared files on the other computer(s) on my network. Every time I try, it says that I don't have permission to access the computer. The same thing happens when the other computer(s) try to access my computer. It also says "network path was not found" in that same message. Please help me fix this problem. I have the same workgroup, created the same network, and have the files sharing. AGain, PLease helpp.

 

If you're using Win XP - try disabling your firewall and then give it some time for your computers to find eachother without accessing network by clicking on any icons; afterwards you can enable your firewall again.

 

I tried with a disabled firewall. There is no network bridge or anything. It won't let me access the other computers, and won't let the out computers access it. Usually I can see the computer in "view workgroup computers"(but can't access it because of the error above), and other times I can't even see it there.

 

Can you ping your other computer's ip, are you sure the ip's are different from eachother?

 

If you are using XP Pro then you need to go to your local Security policies in administrative tools then userrights assignment and change who accesses this computer from the network. The option is at the top.! and put the username that you are trying to access. Make sure all usernames are the same on each PC Had the same problem with accessing my desktop from my laptop and this did the trick. More secure aswell!!
