cant boot from cd/trying to install xp

I am trying to install win xp pro on a HP Pav 742. I successfully re-formatted the hard drive using a win 98 boot up floppy but I can't get into the bios to change the boot seq to boot from cd rom. It has Norton go back which must be part of the bios, says to hit the space bar for boot options but when I hit the space bar it goes directly to the c prompt. Is there anyway to set up xp without booting to the cd rom....This is the 1st time I have ever run into this. I tried holding down the DEL key and a few F keys but no go, always to the c prompt. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated, the HP is running an Athlon XP 2000 with 512 meg ram, 60 gig hard drive which Is formatted and ready to go. Thank you very much for any help.

Hit delete key on post to go to bios.Change boot sequence in bios.
Did you do that?

 

Yep tried that 1st, all i get when i boot up is Norton go back, says to hit space bar but all that happens is it takes me to the c prompt, the delete key does the same thing, right to the c prompt.

 

Try repeatedly pressing del from the second you start the system.

 

Tried that, no go, still right to the c: prompt...I am still open for any other suggestions, like I said in my orig post, I never had this happen before.

 

Why dont you uninstall go back?
Anyway bios should come before the goback screen.
