    Hello

I visited a website using firefox and all of a sudden some IE windows popped up and it was obviously some malware thing happening.
I tried not to allow anything to install by killing the windows off using task manager but something did get installed.

The box I use to log in to windows with was crashing "userinit_logon_application" and had no icons on my desktop or start button etc.

I couldn't start in safe mode because it hung on on mup.sys
I disabled that and then it hung on Siremfile.sys

so I booted on the windows XP CD and did the recovery option
that ran through okay but when it reboots it gets to the XP logo and progress bar bit then there is a quick flash of the blue scrren of death window and start to reboot again overand over

it does the same when I try to boot into safe mode too.

so I'm all out of options.

does anyone have ideas or advice to help me please

I'm really stumped with this I can only boot from windows CD
if I could get it to boot into windows safe mode at least I could try someof the recovery procedures onthis forum.

    Update:
I managed to stop it on the blue screen of death by selecting disable automatic restart onthe safe menu list of options.

    it says:
A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage.

Check you have adiquate disk space ( I had over 100gb yesterdy)

Check hardware vendor for bios updates

    *** STOP 0x0000007E (0xC0000005,0x80536FFB,0xF78A23B4,0XF78A20B0) ***

Now its back to rebooting over and over so I can only boot from CD

okay this is wht I'v managed to do so far:

I've installed another version of windows in the folder windows2 which seems to be working fine in parallel

so I can at least back up some critial files.

I figure the reboot problem is therefore a windows problem
I'm hoping I can do some file / registry swapping and changing to rid the old install of it reboot problem

    any help greatly ppreciated

If I end up formatting the disk I'm thinking there is probably a lot I could backup to make the install go smoother
    outlookcontact and emails? etc.

    Thanks for your reply Evilfantasy
I finally sorted it last week

    This is what I did:
installed another version of windows in a folder called windows2
logged on to that version of windows and backed doncuments and settings
on to my second hard drive. and anything else I could think of
Then formatted the disk and reinstalled everything
