cant boot XP

    i have a laptop that i cant get to boot.
    i have the windows cd but thats no help.
    it says theres a password to get to the recovery counsol and i cant figure out what it is.
    i have a 1GB flash drive to copy files if needed.
    it shows the windows logo for a sec then flashes to blue screen then reboots.
    any help?
