You need to shutdown your antivirus so that you can properly run ComboFix and get us a log. This was stated in the instructions for using ComboFix. If you cannot get it to run in normal boot mode then run it after booting into safe mode. Attach the log when finished.

If any of the below steps do no work for any reason, just write down what happens so you can explain to us later, but keep on going thru all steps.

Please run this procedure: Resetting Registry and File Permissions

Now run MSconfig and put your PC into Normal Startup mode as requested in step 1 of the READ & RUN ME.

Now download SDFix and save it to your Desktop.

    • Run the SDFix.exe by double clicking on it.
    • Allow it to install into the default location which for you should be I:\SDFix
    • Now use Windows Explorer to open the C:\SDFix folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
    • Type Y to begin the cleanup process.
    • It will remove any Trojan Services or Registry entries found and then prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
    • Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
    • When the PC restarts the Fixtool will run again and complete the removal process then display Finished, press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
    • Once the desktop icons load the SDFix report will open on screen and also save into the SDFix folder as Report.txt.
    • Attach the Report.txt file to your next message.

If you do not use Windows Messenger Run this Disable/Remove Windows Messenger to remove Windows Messenger. Do not confuse Windows Messenger with MSN Messenger because they are not the same. Windows Messenger is a frequent cause of popups.

Now download The Avenger by Swandog469, and save it to your Desktop.

    • Extract avenger.exe from the Zip file and save it to your desktop
    • Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.
    • Do not change any check box options!!
    • Copy everything in the Quote box below, and paste it into the Input script here: part of the window:

    • Now click the Execute button.
    • Click Yes to the prompt to confirm you want to execute.
    • Click Yes to the Reboot now? question that will appear when Avenger finishes running.
    • Your PC should reboot, if not, reboot it yourself.
    • A log file from Avenger will be produced at C:\avenger.txt and it will popup for you to view when you login after reboot.

Also delete all files in the below folders except ones from the current date
(Windows will not let you delete the files from the current day).
    C:\WINDOWS\TEMP
    I:\Documents and Settings\Figo\Local Settings\Temp

    Now run Ccleaner!

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:

    • C:\avenger.txt
    • C:\MGlogs.zip

Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

    Hi there

Run SDfix in normal boot mode and select the R option to try and repair the SafeBoot key. If that seems to work then see if you can boot in Safe Mode to run SDfix. If you cannot boot in safe mode or SDfix does not work, just follow the rest of the instructions. If Avenger does not work then I will have to give you a manual fix. Let me know.

    Thanks

    Hi there.

    1) Please uninstall AVG8 and reboot your machine.

    2) Then Run Combofix and attach the log it generates in your next reply.

    3) Now go to this link Using MGTools and download the new version of MGtools.exe using the black bold print link in the first sentence. Overwrite your previous MGtools.exe file with this one. Please run MGTools.exe and attach the MGlogs.zip it creates in your next reply along with the log from CF.

    Thanks

Try running the AVG Removal Tool: AVG Remover(32bit) Read the info here http://www.avg.com/download-tools and make sure you reboot after running it.

If the above does not remove AVG then do the below.

After reboot look for all of the above files we had Avenger attempt to delete. If you still see them, delete them yourself.

Now goto this link Using MGtools and download the new version of MGtools.exe from the black bold print link in the first sentence. Overwrite your previous MGtools.exe file with this one.

    Then attach the below logs:
    • C:\avenger.txt
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

    You have more too do.

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    O2 - BHO: WormRadar.com IESiteBlocker.NavFilter - {3CA2F312-6F6E-4B53-A66E-4E65E497C8C0} - I:\Program Files\AVG\AVG8\avgssie.dll (file missing)
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AVG8_TRAY] I:\PROGRA~1\AVG\AVG8\avgtray.exe
    O18 - Protocol: linkscanner - {F274614C-63F8-47D5-A4D1-FBDDE494F8D1} - I:\Program Files\AVG\AVG8\avgpp.dll (file missing)

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Now we need to use ComboFix to remove a bunch of malware files.
    • Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
      • If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    • Also make sure you have shut down all protection software (antivirus, antispyware...etc) or they may get in the way of allowing ComboFix to run properly.
    • Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below quote box into it:
    • Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    • At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    • You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    • Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe
    • Follow the prompts.
    • When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    • I will ask for this log below
    Note:

Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

After reboot, now install the current version of Sun Java from: Sun Java Runtime Environment

Also delete all files in the below folders except ones from the current date (Windows will not let you delete the files from the current day).
    I:\Documents and Settings\Figo\Local Settings\Temp\tddcdat

You also need to look for the below files and folder on all hard disk partitions and on all removable type devices that you have plugged into this PC since they may be infected. Also any other PCs where you have plugged in these removable devices may be infected. You need to remove these files from those PCs too if found.

    Autorun.inf
    resycled
    resycled\boot.com
    9dl.cmd
    vmhr.bat

    Now run Ccleaner!

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:
    • C:\ComboFix.txt
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

We need to continue to cleanup after AVG which is still not completely removed. I will add parts to the fix below for doing this.

    O2 - BHO: AVG Security Toolbar - {A057A204-BACC-4D26-9990-79A187E2698E} - I:\PROGRA~1\AVG\AVG8\AVGTOO~1.DLL
    O3 - Toolbar: AVG Security Toolbar - {A057A204-BACC-4D26-9990-79A187E2698E} - I:\PROGRA~1\AVG\AVG8\AVGTOO~1.DLL
    O20 - Winlogon Notify: avgrsstarter - I:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\avgrsstx.dll
    O23 - Service: AVG8 WatchDog (avg8wd) - AVG Technologies CZ, s.r.o. - I:\PROGRA~1\AVG\AVG8\avgwdsvc.exe

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Now we need to use ComboFix

Now run Ccleaner to remove temp files!

Now goto this link Using MGtools and download the new version of MGtools.exe from the blue bold print link in the first sentence. Overwrite your previous MGtools.exe file with this one.

Run MGtools.exe ( Note: If using Vista make sure UAC is still disabled. Also don't double click on it, use right click and select Run As Administrator )

    Now attach the below log:
    • C:\ComboFix.txt
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

I'm only trying to finish removing your malware. This is something you will have to post about in the Software Forum. You can try the below but I'm not sure it address this particular problem.

First just try pressing ALT+V with My Computer open to see what happens. The try the below.

If XP Pro, use Group Policy, this does NOT work for XP Home...
    Start | Run | Type: gpedit.msc | Click OK|
    Navigate to >>>
    User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\
    Windows Explorer\
Remove File menu from Windows Explorer
    Set to: Not configured

If the above does not help try this: http://www.dougknox.com/xp/utils/xp_toolbarfix.htm

Your logs are clean. Yes you can reinstall AVG now.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /u
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /u, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
      • Delete the C:\combofix folder from combofix (if it exists)
    3. If we had you run Avenger, you can delete all files related to Avenger now.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    8. You can delete the C:\MGtools folder and the C:\MGtools.exe file. You can also delete the C:\MGlogs.zip
    9. If you are running Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures in step 3 the READ ME for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
