    hey all

i've got a problem that i can't figure out. I can no longer browse using ie or ff all i get is the usual ie error check your settings and in ff it gives me the page cannot load!

WIERD thing is that i use ares and since it has its own built in browser i can use it perfectly fine to browse the net!! Msn msg also connects fine and so does ym msg so i know that i do have a connection for sure. I also noticed that if i boot in safe mode then i can use BOTH IE and FF to browse no problems!

    I have so run:

Full antivirus check with Kaspersky - Latest updates - Nothing found
Run Spyware check with Ewido- Nothing found
Did an online scan with one of your recommend sites (can't remember which)
I also tried to fix the winsock issue since on a previous pc i could only browse certain sites and not some others so i applied the WINSOCKFIX and no change.

I was about to attempt to d/l and run LSPFIX but haven't done so yet.

I did do an ipconfig to see that i do have an IP add and i do. Also i DO NOT user a Router, I DO NOT have ANY firewalls, (xp turned off to) I do NOT have a LAN (yes i checked settings to make sure it wasn't trying to use a proxy or anything).

I haven't yet tried to ping an ip or web name as yet but will try when i get home and see if that works or not.

    thanks

Since you do have the ability to connect in safe mode, you need to follow the below procedure.

Note: Not using a software firewall is a very bad idea and is even worse since you also do not have a hardware firewall from a router.

Please follow our standard cleaning procedures which are necessary for us to provide you support. Also there are steps included for installing, renaming, running, and posting HijackThis logs as attachments.
    • Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support
    • Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.
    • Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.
    • After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis and attach a log:
Make sure you also rename HijackThis.exe as suggested in the procedures. Use analyse.exe for the new name. This is very important due to some new infections going around.
    • When you return to make your next post, make sure you attach the following logs and that you have run these scans in the following order too:
      • CounterSpy - only for Windows XP, 2K, & NT users
      • AVG Antispyware log - ONLY IF NEEDED you were not able to run CounterSpy. - only for Windows XP, 2K, & NT users
      • Bitdefender - from step 6
      • Panda Scan - from step 6
      • runkeys.txt - the log from GetRunKey.bat
      • newfiles.txt - the log from ShowNew.bat
      • HijackThis
NOTE: You can only attach 3 files in a single message so it will require that you use two messages to attach all of these logs!
