Hello. I have a new computer (Dell Inspiron 531 w/ Vista) and I can't sucessfully burn an audio CD that I can play in other CD players.

I know it's not the type of CDs I am using because they are the same that I sucessfully use on my other computer.

I have used all kinds of burner programs from Roxio, Ashampoo, FinalBurner, BurnAware, CDBurnerXP, WindowsMediaPlayer and so on.

So, I am thinking it must be some default setting in my drive that I need to change.

    Any suggestions?

I'm sure this is so simple I will be embarassed.

Here is what Belarc Adviser reports as to what drives i have.....

    "MN3126X KNG040F SCSI CdRom Device [CD-ROM drive]
PBDS DVD+-RW DH-16W1S SCSI CdRom Device [CD-ROM drive]

Canon iP6210DStorage USB Device [Hard drive] -- drive 1
    ST332062 0AS SCSI Disk Device (320.07 GB) -- drive 0
TEAC USB HS-CF Card USB Device [Hard drive] -- drive 2
TEAC USB HS-MS Card USB Device [Hard drive] -- drive 4
TEAC USB HS-SD Card USB Device [Hard drive] -- drive 5
TEAC USB HS-xD/SM USB Device [Hard drive] -- drive 3"

When I open 'My Computer' it reads DVD RW Drive E

I have sucessfully burned DVDr and DVD RW disks, what do I need to do to burn CDs?

Thanks in advance for any help!

First, what format are the music files now? MP3? WMA?
Second, you're using standard CDR blanks, yes?
Third, you must convert the music file from MP3 (or whatever) to CDA and then burn as an audio CD, not a data CD. When using Windows Media Player for this, it will convert all the music to standard CDA format, and at some point in the process it will ask if you want the CD to play on some CD players, or on all CD players. Choose ALL players, that means it will be in CDA format which standard CD audio players will recognize. I have used a program called Burrrn successfully ,many, many times to convert MP3 files (and many other formats) to CDA and to burn CDs that play perfectly in all CD players. It's easy to use, just be sure to keep the time under about 67 minutes, and burn at 16x or slower or sometimes the audio will 'squeal' or have a hiss to it....
    Burrrn http://www.snapfiles.com/reviews/Burrrn/burrrn.html (totally free)
If you think the problem is with your drive, try copying a standard aduio CD and see if that works (Nero will do it, you can download a demo from here http://www.majorgeeks.com/Nero_8_Ultra_Edition_d2228.html) Maybe visit the CD drive maker's web site and see if this is a known issue with your model of drive....

Currently I am trying to burn MP3 files. I am using programs and disks that work on my old computer. They all have a feature that asks, 'Burn an audio CD that can be played on most players?' I always choose that option. I think there must be something wrong with my drivers or the CD drive's configuration. One program asks whether to use
PBDS DVD+-RW DH-16W1S SCSI CdRom Device
    or
    MN3126X KNG040F SCSI CdRom Device

I choose the First one (PBDS DVD+-RW DH-16W1S SCSI CdRom Device) and the disk doesn't work on CD players. If I choose the 2nd one,
(MN3126X KNG040F SCSI CdRom Device) It will not let me choose a speed and it won't let me proceed to burn anything.

PS - I tried Burrrrn but gave an arror that the disk was not appendable?!?

Regardless, the problem seems to be here:
PBDS DVD+-RW DH-16W1S SCSI CdRom Device
    or
MN3126X KNG040F SCSI CdRom Device <--------- Probably here as my DVD burner works great. It just won't burn CDs that play in my car or stereo.

    Hi Texan,
I've noticed that you are using SCSI devices.
By any chance do you have an IDE burner that you could put into your system to try that out?

Sorry it took so long to reply.
I am not sure what you mean. (A little over my head.)

I have an old HP PC with Vista and the same CD burning program software and the same type of CDs. It works perfectly in my car and jambox, etc.
This Dell is brand new. I am using the same CD burning software. What could the new Dell possibly not have that an old HP does that is needed to burn CDs that work in almost all CD players?

That might be the problem. Not all burning software works with every burner. I liked some software but it did not work with a burner installed in one of my computers so I could not use it. Since the software is probably older (you mention an old HP computer) it was written before the two burners in your new Dell was built.
What burning software came with your Dell? I'd remove all the others you've tried and re-install the burning software that came with the computer.
