Can't burn to CD/DVD Please help!

Sorry if this has been addressed in another thread, I did not see it.

I have a Dell Inspiron 1521, about 3 yrs old, running Vista Home Premium SP2. My CD-ROM drive is a "TSSTcorp DVD+-RW TS-L632D ATA Device".

My CDRW/DVDRW drive worked just fine until about a year ago.
It used to be able to burn CDs and DVDs with no problem.
Now, I cannot burn anything. I have tried several different programs and nothing works. When I try to burn a file to the CD using Windows, it will go through the entire process as if it successfully burned. However, when I look at the disk in window's explorer, there is nothing on it. Upon re-insertion, it will treat it as a blank disk. If I use iTunes, upon re-insertion, it will say it is not a blank disc, but shows no files.

I can import files via CD/DVD just fine. I can also watch DVD movies with no problem.
I am decent with computers, but this has me stumped! Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

 

I have a box full of older dvd burners that are the same as yours, burning and reading are different, it may do one or the other,or both when new, I believe yours to be bad. ed

 

Bummer, how difficult is it to replace a CD-Rom drive on a laptop? Is it worth it?

 

Depends on the laptop, but most i believe has a screw underneath that allows it to slide out, there is no wires, just slide in connector, if you need it, yes it is worth it. ed

 

Thank you so much! I did some more research and found which screw it is. I will attempt once I buy a new drive!
