Hi, I just got an external monitor for my Win XP laptop. The monitor's native resolution is 1440x900. Under Display settings, my laptop only goes up to 1024x768.

The external monitor shows that the current resolution is 1024x768, while the optimal resolution is 1440x900. Text looks bady pixelated on the external monitor - how do I increase the resolution?

    Thanks,
    Karen

The video card in your laptop determines what you can see. If the laptop only allows for 1024 x 768, then that's what you have to accept.

One thing you can check. Go to the website for the laptop make and see if there is a newer driver for the video chip. This might allow you to get more screen resolution choices.

In a desktop, you could get a better video card. In a laptop, this usually isn't possible.
