Hey all, i hope someone can help me out! Our IT guy is in hospital and something has gone wrong with our setup and i have no idea how to fix it!

I am UNAWARE of the configuration setup so i wouldn't be able to give much more info. Basically we have a computer that acts like a server in the pharmacy & i think is connected to our head office somehow. When we start the computer it shows a normal desktop screen and basically has all the pharmacy stuff on it & then if we press scroll twice and escape twice it would switch the profile and show another desktop screen where we can access stuff like mail & documents etc etc etc. The problem is when using scroll esc its no longer bringing up the other profile! Ive googled for an answer and i don't seem to find much, something about a KVM switch which i am not sure if we have one or not!

I've checked all the usual, cables, keyboard etc etc and no luck.

The OS seems to be XP or looks like XP on initial start up, BUT when we use the 2nd profile it seems to have a vista or win 7 looking desktop!! I have also nooticed in the icon tray it says something about sql not connected and when i try and connect it gave some error which i got frustrated with and just left it be.....

    Any idea?

Oh yes, the system was working perfectly fine until this morning....

Sounds like you have two systems with one keyboard/monitor/mouse and a KVM switch. Likely the KVM switch is hung up. Generally, you would boot the offending machine to clear up the problem.

My suggestion would be to boot both machines or call someone in if your business depends on getting this corrected quickly.

    Where are you located?

thanks for that, based in leicester UK.....i have tried booting the PC but not the KVM switch, would that be located in our store or would it be at head office?

Generally pretty close to the PC. Follow the keyboard, or video or mouse cable from your PC and it will lead you to the KVM switch.
