Can't connect to internet Windows 7

I have a Windows 7 Dell desktop and about a week ago it just stopped connecting to the internet. It is getting an IP address from my router but it cannot even ping locally and the adapter says "no internet access". I've tried reinstalling the adapter driver from Dell's website but no luck.

I thought maybe the adapter was bad but I cannot install a wireless usb adapter either so I'm thinking maybe a service is messed up?

Can you help me with where to start?

Did you recently scan with and/or use the /uninstall switch with ComboFix?

Yes, I scanned with Combofix today to see if there was a virus or infection on the computer that might be causing the issue. I have not yet done the /uninstall of it.

Ok, well do not run the /uninstall switch yet as there is currently a bug in the program for Vista and 7 machines.

These logs look OK. Have you tried connecting to the internet without using the router? Also, is AVG still installed?

OK thanks for the heads up I will not run the uninstall for combofix.

I have not tried to connect directly to the internet without a router, but I have tried connecting it at two different locations, each location having their own router and multiple other computers that are connecting fine using each router. I have FiOS at my current location so I can't try connecting without a router (the FiOS device is a modem/router combo unit). Is it possible that the network card is just going bad on this computer? It's an integrated NIC, maybe I should try installing a separate NIC? I could try the wireless USB network adapter again, but it wouldn't install on first try.

    Yes it's a possibility.
If you have the spare parts then you can test it this way.
What error messages did you receive when trying to install the wireless USB adapter? Did it install properly on the second try?

Forgot to answer your question about AVG. AVG is not installed.

Definitely the integrated NIC! I tried installing the USB adapter again but the install just didn't seem to complete and then it would connect but still IE would come up and sometimes pull a page and sometimes not, MSE would not complete an installation, all kinds of strange stuff. Then I disabled the LAN connection and reinstalled the USB and everything is now working perfectly.

Thank you so much for helping me figure it out!

Just a quick update, it should be safe to uninstall ComboFix now on Vista/7 machines using the /uninstall switch. ;)

I have a similar problem. My entire system may need to run system recovery to fix it. I downloaded the two suggested applications and ran them by using my laptop to access the software and transferring it via a external hard drive to the desktop running Windows 7. The results of both tests follow I may have to do another tread because I am having trouble finding the external hard drive, need to reboot.
