Can't connect to internet?

I have two computers in my house connected by a wired Linksys router. one of the computers does not connect to the internet, the other one does. The one that does not connect to the internet is a Windows XP if that matters any. I tired unplugging and then replugging the router but to no avail. the ipconfig/release process seems to do nothing and I have tried plugging the cable directly from modem to computer. help?

 

when you do ipconfig are you seeing a ip address, also check the device manager and see if your network card is on the list.

 

What is a network card?

 

open control panel>pick system>hardware>device manager>come down to network adapter
is there a yellow mark next to it.

 

There is no yellow marks, everything says it is working but it is not

 

Go the the START button
Select the "Run.." option
Type "CMD" in the blank and press <enter>

You should see a command prompt window with a blinking cursor.
