WinME: I used to be connected automatically to MSN Msgr when logged on to the net - not any more. Sygate is set to allow MSN Msgr. MSN, off course, is NO help. Suggestions on a solution would be most appreciated.:)

Are you able to connect to MSN Messanger at all?

Every couple of months I am connected.
    After 4 - 8 sign-in attempts I sometimes get a connection.

Do you have Dial-Up or Broadband for your Internet Connection?

Does MSN Messenger still work if you manually connect to the MSN service?

    Which version of MSN?

Have you checked the "General" settings tab in MSN to see if Automatically Run and Sign In are both checked?

Disable the firewall and try, if that works then delete the msn listing ( messenger or msnmsgr.exe ) in the firewalls allowed/disalowed programs list, start MSN and re-allow it when your FW alrets you to a new program wanting net access.

Is it the latest version 7 and whats the full version number?

Delete cookies and temp internet files... sometimes a corrupt file or cookie can cause issues.

Closing firewall allows the Msgr connection.
Followed recommendations, but same problem after next startup.
    Msgr Version: 7.0.0816

As I said in #9, I have done that, but on next start-up the problem persists. Even setting to "Allow All" doesn't allow the connection, but shutting down firewall gets me thru.

Only things I can now think of are,

    1. In the advanced application settings ( see guide link in earlier post ) add MSNs port/s to the list.

Port to add would be 1863 as its the logon one.

but here are all of them that MSN Mess uses
    1863 Sign-in
    6891-6900 Direct Connect, File Transfer
    1503 Application Sharing
    6901 VOIP
    5004-65535 Video/Webcam
    1838 Game Audio
    5004-65535 Audio Chat

    2. Loathe to suggest this but maybe use a different Firewall, Outpost or ZoneAlarm
