I am trying to connect a bluray dvd player to my network so I can stream netflix on my tv , its a samsung bd-5500 , using an ethernet cable from my wirless router , its a belkin g , set up everything as it should be per instructions but when it gets to the network test part hte mac address passes the ip address, subnet mask , gateway, dns server passes but it gets to gateway ping and fails , it says its not connected to the gateway , I have unplugged the ethernet and plugged it into a laptop and it gets on internet fine I know this is a little different than normal problems but help would be appreciated

I have a sony and streaming Netflix and Hulu Plus is my new addiction. Even my 3 year old has learned how to start her shows on netflix, turned on some PBS show during the super bowl while we were in the kitchen. We laughed, I think we should submit that to netflix or one of the device makers as a commercial idea for the next super bowl.

Do you have a static ip option on the samsung? It doesn't sound like it's having a problem getting the ip settings from the router but it's worth a moment to try. Have you checked the samsung site for a known issue? I'll go look right now.

    Well.

A quick read through leads me to this conclusion.

Do you have the box and the receipt? RUN to the store and exchange this. This is a very common problem with not a lot of answers out there, not even from those who have chatted with samsung all day.

Maybe encryption from the router that it isn't validating properly, you can try testing no encryption just to eliminate that. Other maybe suggestion is the static ip settings instead of dhcp. Beyond that, nothing really useful in what I read but very weak support and a very long list of recurring questions that aren't resolved. It sounds like it's pretty touchy. Even people who had it working have a lot of issues. That's not exactly uncommon, but the volume and the lack of answers makes me think it's not the best product.

It's a new device? All they can offer is turn off the firewall (firewall?) or the new device needs repair? They must have had a bad batch and they know it. No need to make you try a bunch of stuff when it's a defect, I guess.

I've had good luck with a sony blu ray (hubby bought it at Target, of all places) and a Roku player. The nice thing with the Roku is that it's tiny. My son says it's the size of a stand up tissue box cut in half vertically. (that's as close as we could get). He gets to take it into his room Saturday evenings.

what bothers me is I tried to hook it straight from the modem and it doesnt work and tried to connect my game system and it doesnt work either , just seems like it should be some setting issue but I dont know enough to really have a good idea
