Hi, I really need some help..
Yesterday in the morning I went to use my computer and it was disconnected. Reconnecting to my wifi network would say "Can't connect to this network" I haven't seen that error before.. I had to restart my modem and the problem fixed.

Later in the day I left for 3 hours, when I came back my computer was disconnected again. I tried to reconnect and it said the same "Can't connect to this network" Only this time, restarting my modem did not fix my problem. I feel like I tried everything, I watched videos on how to fix this error, websites, nothing is reconnecting my internet..

One of the most frustrating things about Windows is - to trouble shoot the internet, you need to connect to the network, but if you cant connect to the network it turns into a vicious circle.. Can someone help me out, please..

    I'm running:
    Windows 10 pro 64-bit

Thanks to anyone willing to help

To add - Maybe this is a clue to my problem.

When I tried to fix my problem in the command prompt by using "ipconfig /release" I got the following:

No operation can be performed on Ethernet while it's media is disconnected.
No operation can be performed on Wi-Fi while it's media is disconnected.
No operation can be performed on Local Area Connection* 1 while it's media is disconnected.
No operation can be performed on Local Area Connection* 2 while it's media is disconnected.

Are there any other wireless devices that use this connection such as phones? How are they doing?

Have you tried an Ethernet connection? Have you checked Device Manager? Have you run ipconfig /all from a command prompt? If you have access to another computer download Tweaking.com Windows Repair to a flash drive and install it and run the network repairs in safe mode.

Let us know how you get on.

You use wifi, have you tried connectting by ethernet? If so, does the computer remain connected?

The Modem is all the way in the basement.. Ethernet cable would have to go pretty far...I just got done talking to Dell Tech Support. They didn't seem to want to help me, they just said to get a new computer and I cant afford that. This is kind of depressing. Ill try to get the suggested Tweak repair..

    ioconfig /all returned this:

What about Device Manager > Network Adapters?

The Tweak.com tool did not fix the issue..I did notice in my log for Tweak, it says "CHKDSK cannot continue in read-only mode." Is there a way to scan the disk out of read-only mode?

I've tried to uninstall my network adapter and let it reinstall on reboot. No luck..

Updating the network adapter doesn't work, possibly because no internet connection..

When my computer did this, I did forget to close out of Virtual Machine, I was messing around with Debian Linux for fun, nothing serious just changing Linux themes... Could that have an effect on my computer?

Is the basement unit a Gateway? (Modem and router) Because there has to be more than just a modem to get wifi. A modem typically gives access to one bit of hardware either a router or exactly one computer.

I use a wired solution since about 2010 for a basement computer while the router is on the first floor of our home. It is called a Powerline adapter.

The wifi solution would be to get a USB wifi adapter and to use that instead of the internal unit.

No, my internet company only gave us a Modem.. I was using a Wi-Fi extender, it worked okay until we were upgraded to fiber internet. Then it started acting funky so I just went with my computers Wi-Fi until recently when it just stopped connecting.

I'll look into a USB wifi adapter.

The program needs to be run 'As Administrator' so it has the necessary permissions to change your system settings. To do so just right click the programs shortcut to get that option, However I've only just seen your latest exchange with plodr and that definitely needs resolving first.
