can't connect to update servers + VRT.tmp

    I had the VRT(1, 2, or 3).tmp virus so I followed the instructions using the tools in "READ & RUN ME FIRST" along with my own protection software: Symantec Endpoint Protection and Outpost Firewall 2009.

    I seem to have eliminated the threats creating the VRT*.tmp files but I am unable to connect to any symantec website or microsoft sites (including the update servers)

    Because of that, I was unable to run MGtools because I got "Error Message Type 4" and can't use windows update to get the most current version of .NET framework in order to get past that error.

    Any ideas?

    VRT1.tmp comes back after reboot also

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

    You need to attach all of the logs we requested. We cannot help you until you complete the instructions.

    Not True. MGtools runs just fine. You just will not have one of scan logs inside of MGlogs.zip because the scan related to this message fails.


    Symantect Endpoint Protection has its own firewall. Why do you have OutPost installed? That's two firewalls.

    Combofix detected virut, so I'm just going to reformat

    I won't run OutPost any longer and just use Symantec Endpoint

    That is the correct approach for a Virut infection. Make sure you work thru the below after the reinstall:

    Also becareful not to reinstall from any executable files you may have backed up while the system was infected or you will be reinstalling again.
