I can't delete 2 files sitting on my desktop. When delete is attempted, says "items are no longer located at....desktop... Check location and so on. In properties, files do show as located on desktop.
No big deal, just getting on my nerve.
Any tips how remove them? Drag and drop or R click delete produces same result every time.

I suggest you try CCleaner. It can be downloaded from MajorGeeks.

Open CCleaner > Options > Include > Add and navigate to those 2 files. Then click Cleaner > Advanced, and check Custom Files and Folders, and then Run Cleaner.
You might have to restart your PC.

Nope, does not work. Won't open file in CCC. It shows it in browse menu but when clicked on, says file not found check file name.

Right-click the Desktop and click Refresh. Are the files still there?
If they are, what are the names and extensions?

This is only the second time I have seen 0 byte files that can't be deleted. I'm guessing 'Refresh' didn't work.
Restart the PC in Safe Mode and try deleting them the regular way.

No. Says file can not be found check file location. In file properties it's assigned to desktop.

I had to use Porteus linux from a USB stick to remove several 0 byte files from Windows.
I tried Move on Boot, Unlocker, and a few other programs guaranteed to do the job that did not work.

If you know how to make a bootable linux USB stick, I can PM you a link to download a small Porteus ISO. It will fit on a 4GB stick or can be burned to a CD. Boot with it, find the file and Porteus removes those files with no problem.

Though it's tempting, I am much so unfamiliar with Linux and taking chance of messing my machine is rather not worth it. Thank you for kind offer. Maybe I'll just put some black tape over those 2 icons, I have large display. :-D

Run CCleaner's Registry Cleaner. It's safe and does have a backup option. Look at what it finds.

    ukrkoz...

Have you tried renaming the files? You could try renaming them with the extension that is equivalent to .txt in Linux and then see if they will delete...

    AltBo,
I thought of that. The problem is these files don't actually exist! I'm stumped.

BTW I sent you a PM earlier on.

Those file names do not appear to be English. Looks more like Russian or something:)) The first one has a backwards N and the second one looks more like a symbol for the first char instead of an A.

Have you tried using the DOS command window? I am curious if those 2 files show up there. If they do, you might be able to use the F option of the del command, which is "force". And you will probably need to use wild cards.

If you need help with the commands, post back here.

Press Start->Run, copy/paste the following command into the box and press OK:
A blank command window will open on your desktop, then close in a minute or two. This is normal.
