Can't delete a file

I was downloading a file using Firefox, and the download got stuck, so I had to cancel it (I think my connection disconnected). I was left with an unfinished file on my desktop, and when I tried to download it it said that the file is being used by another program. I tried to restart, since that usually fixes the problem, but it refuses to let me delete it no matter how many times I restart, displaying the same message. Any ideas?

i have the same problem, with 4 files, I've tried a multitude of programs, including Unlocker to remove them, but they won't go away.

 

So the partial file...incomplete or corrupted, is sitting in a folder somewhere and you can't delete, correct?

What does attributes say? Can you change the attributes of these files?

I haven't tried "Unlocker" downloaded it to try later, one that has worked for me is "Eraser" available here at http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4221, this has always worked for me things it can't not erase when running Windows it will erase the next time Windows is rebooted. So far I have not had anything that it can not get rid of. Side bonus is that it overwrites the file so there is no trace left for anybody else to see

Only a trial period but it will give you a new trash can and get things at the registry level. Install and change the settings to "Medium" otherwise I would begin to suspect something "Malicious" and run the full gauntlent on the spyware/adware/virus scrubbing.
