I recently re-installed Windows 7, and recovered my music files from windows.old .
I put them in my music library, but for some reason now some of the albums are missing tracks, or were split into multiple folders . When i right click an album folder in an attempt to delete it, the right click menu does not contain the option to "delete" the folder, whereas before my re-installation this was not a problem. The right click menu contains "open, open in new window, add to windows media player list, play with windows media player, and create shortcut" . Ive been looking on MG and google for a solution, and have not yet found one . I CAN however, go into the folder, and delete the music tracks individually, but this is much more time consuming than clicking once to delete the whole folder. Whats going on with this ?

    Hi

When you went into Windows.old how did you copy the music tracks out was it cut and paste or just you linked the files to your library?

Try from safe mode (F8 at boot) as the files could be attached to an application or the system thus blocking deletion.

What error do you get when trying to delete on mass? in full please.

I dragged and dropped the entire folder containing all my music files from windows.old to the music library. I do not get an error when i try to delete individual album folders, if you re-read my first post, you'll see that the right click menu simply does not contain the option for me to delete .
Perhaps if i returned the main music folder to windows.old, and used a different method to move the files - maybe this would correct the problem ? Seems like the system is not recognizing the file types or something.

Thank you for your assistance in this Halo, you have helped me many times and i do appreciate it .

    Hi Fed Up

Try as you dragged and dropped to cut and paste the whole music folders contents (not the folder itself but the contents) and paste into a new music folder as an alternative method to copy them and see how you go.

Likely that the .old is still holding onto the files and as its a type of compressed file they may not allow right click context menus, not looked into .old that much to be honest to know the ins and outs of it.

Ok, ive tried moving the files around to various locations, thought i had the problem solved when i got the folder onto my desktop, where everything seemed to work fine, tried to move everything back into the music library, but no files would transfer . Fine. Ill start over. I deleted everything. Now, apparently I dont even have PERMISSION to CREATE folders to put my albums within the main music folder. This was never a problem before. It appears to be a permission problem. This is becoming very frustrating.

    I went to : http://www.blogsdna.com/2159/how-to...sions-to-access-files-folder-in-windows-7.htm
and messed around with the permissions . It still wasnt working, but i kept repeatedly attempting to do the same thing, and it finally started working. I have no clue what the !#%! i did, or why any of this happened, but at least it seems to be working for now. Unfortunately, I can't really explain what I did (i didnt really know WHAT i was doing, other than changing permission settings) or why it is now working, but here's to hoping it continues to work, and thanks for your time, Halo. You can be sure I'll be back with new problems sooner or later. I just don't understand why i had absolutely zero troubles with 7 on the first install, but on this second install im running into many issues I didnt have trouble with before . Weird .

    Have a good weekend !!
