Cant download at work!!!

Hi,
I just recently started working at this company with a super fast internet connection but i can't download anything from winmx or any other file sharing program. I think this is because i am behind a proxy server or something to do with the firewall (mainly the firewall).

However i have all the passwords and full controls over the whole network and firewall policies etc. but im not veryy fimiliar with what is what.

I need to know what i need to change in order for me to be able to download and the settings i need to put into winmx.

eg. outgoing TCP connections - socks proxy
incoming TCP connections - listening port
in/out UDP packets - port
host name resolution - external DNS server


All that i no is that to connect to the internet we have to go to a DNS server with IP 192.168.36.2 port 3128..does that help?

And we have a firewall called watchguard..does that help

And for me to connect to the internet i use port 80 which connects to --> virus wall (Trend Micro) --> watchguard firewall --> Cisco router --> ISP (demon)..does that help

Is it possible for me to download or shud i just keep dreaming?

Well, at least consider the fact that if you were to download something nasty and infect other computers or the entire network, you would be the least favorite person there, not to mention possibly in the unemployment line the next day.

I sit at a PC most of the day at work. I don't have admin rights, but can actually download some stuff. But I ONLY download legit stuff from reputable sites.

I would never download or even install any P2P or filesharing stuff on my work PC, let alone download anyones infected crap from WinMX.

Not quite the answer you were looking for, but take it from me. Companies HATE that. I've seen long time employees escorted to the sidewalk for carelessly downloading.

The first things you should download are help wanted ads. You will need them when you are fired for unauthorized use of company server time and hacking. It's not worth your job for a few MP3s, you can get cable or DSL and P2P at home all you want.

no.. obviously your dad's IT department has blocked those ports for a reason. Downloading copyrighted material without paying for it is a federal offense. If he was ever caught with that material on his network, HE would be fined and go to jail. Think about your dad and what potential risks you're putting him into.

 

Then just ask Daddy Warbucks to buy you the DVD's

It was just a thought neway..got a 2Mb line which is hardly used thought i could make use of it.
How would my dad go to jail doesn't that mean that everyone else who uses P2P or filesharing stuff could go to jail too!!!! We are all committing a federal offence!!??

I still haven't heard a good enough reason as to why i shudnt download from work.

And evilevets: i wont be downloading anyones 'infected crap from WinMX' i just used winmx as an example i wont actually be using it. And i've got something called a virus scan!?!?!?!!

 

using P2P is not illegal. But what you download off it could viloate copyrights and THAT is a federal offense punishable up to 1 year in prison and fines.

If you're at work, shouldn't you be "working".. isn't that reason enough aside from respect for your father?
