I go to receive updates, it connects, finds the updates, I check the recommended updates, says it's downloading and immediately says "Download failed: HP Software Update was unable to process your request at this time. Please try again later. (HPSU-2008)"

The only thing is, I've tried this about 10 times. A few times back to back. Sometimes a week or month later, yet nothing ever changes. Anyone know what's going on?

Try to uninstall whatever software you are using to update the driver, and reinstall it.

    I already did that actually.

Is this the software trying to update or is it windows trying to update. Do you know if its a software update or a driver update?

It could be a security setting in IE, or maybe a firewall setting. Set your IE settings back to default, and make sure no web sites are blocked in the IE settings and in your firewall. Other than that, maybe try a different browser to download the updates....

If you have access to another computer and a cd or jump drive the easiest thing might be to go to hp's website and download a copy of the update to the cd or jumpdrive (whichever). This really depends on how often you update this software since it is not really a fix, but more of a just get it to work one time thing.

So go to the website and look for the update manually you are saying?

WaHooCrazy's right. Just download the software from the site. Maybe try some downloaders (would recommend "Free Download Manager"). By the way - what's your internet connection speed? On an old 28.8 bps it will take a lot of "years".

Just an update, I was talking via streaming tech support with one of the tech's from HP and he had me completely uninstall and re-install the software associated with the printer and it STILL doesn't work.

I know that I can go through the trouble to manually find the updates on the website, but the point I'm making is that I have the legal software installed for this device and it should work properly and it isn't.

I'm going to assume that this is a USB device.

    Disconnect the device first.

    Remove all old software/drivers.

    Restart computer.

    Install new drivers.

    Connect the device.

Sorry, I should've said software AND drivers.

At any rate, that's what I did.

    soo... no more suggestions?

The thing that bothers me is that, unless I got an incompetent tech guy, I think i'm screwed.

sorry for the lack of replying on my part, ive been swamped with stuff i had to get done...i hate the end of marking periods where i go to school, but anyhow the only other suggestion i have is maybe do a spyware scan with a few different scanners to see if you have any spyware / adware on your computer, this could easily interfere with the installation of programs and drivers. If that dosent work i would call the tech support people again you might get someone with a little more of a brain otherwise im all otta ideas. (well at the moment anyway, who knows i might think of more) Hope you get it workin, post back anyway let me know how it worked out

    Good luck!

Thanks for the reply. I don't think it's due to spyware/adware. This computer is pretty brand new, and never misused(ie. going to spyware related sites, porn sites, etc.). In addition, it was shortly after I got it that I submitted logs in the malware forum to clean anything on it from the manufacturer and nothing was found. I've been running anti-spyware programs, virus scanners, and a firewall since the day I got it.

At any rate. I'll try getting in touch with the tech people again and hope for the best.

    Thanks.
