Cant get any search engine to work!!

I am having a similar problem on my inlaws computer. I have AVG8 did a scan found TONS of stuff, removed it. Then ran Spybot Search & Destroy. It found several things and when I went to remove the threats etc. the system shut down. I fired it back up and SpybotS&D started again and I was able to remove a bunch of stuff. This system had StopSign installed in it and I have been having a HELL of a time getting rid of it.The Spybot S&D found this Smitfraud thing in it and I am not sure if I got rid of that or not.I also ran Adaware and found some tracking cookies but when I asked it to remove them.. it wouldnt. If I try to go to this site Majorgeeks from that computer.. nothing happens. I am using Firefox... it just loads and loads and loads.. The same thing happens if I try to use Google.. nothing . Oh and after I have Firefox open for a while I get popups from... IE!! thats right. I cant get ANY search engine to work on this computer. If I type in certain web addresses it will go to the page and I can cruise around no prob .. but some wont load.. Anyone have a clue?
