Can't get friends PC on the net with my ADSL modem

Hi guys

I have my friends PC at my place to look at and want to up date all his out of date anti spyware virus windows ect, all the things he hasn't done:mad

I put my ADSL modem a Linksys single port connected by ethernet on his so I can get on line to get up dates and so on but it tells me the modem is unplugged and it's clearly not, the modem has line syc and on the back of his PC where the ethernet cable plugs in it has 2 leds that blink but I cant get it to do anything...:banghead

Both run Win XP

 

First thing to try would be to power down the modem and your friends comp and then power up the modem, make sure it gets connected and then the comp.
If that doesn't work, check the connection details.You may have an incorrect user name and password in the log in process (if you have that type of connection).

If you suspect malware, there are many types that can foul up the connection.
You may need to download the scanners and programs and transfer them to the comp by flash drive or CD and run without updating them.

Fixed thanks, ended up going to TCP/IP in local area connection properties, clicked auto select IP and auto select DNS server and worked straight away:-D
