I had the about blank browser hijacker and downloaded adaware to help solve it ,but wound up resetting the computer to an earlier date. The whole time and even now though I am not able to get to anything that is windows microsoft updates. When I go to anthing that says microsoft the computer tells me its a MSHMTL.DLL error ,I mean nothing MS comes up not even the windows media player. I know that by this thread you will realize that I am not very computer literate. Any advice that can be hammered into my skull would be greatly appreciated. Thank you romie P.S. I hope I am in the right thread listing

    Hi romie,

First make sure you have gave us the correct error, is it MSHMTL.DLL or MSHTML.DLL (see the difference)?

If the error is the last one, MSHTML.DLL go to the link below and see if it looks like the error message you are getting.

    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;Q318153

    Let us know.

Before you continue, does the article describe your error? If yes, try this:

Instead of typing c:\windows\windows update setup files, just copy and paste it in the box, that will eliminate any typing mistakes. Also, make sure you are using the one for Windows ME.

It seems as if I don't have the ie_1.cab folder . Any ideas other avenues I might try. Because the microsoft link on the thread comes up but I can not go anywhere with it. Thanks romie

I am not that familiar with Windows ME but the ms-dos prompt window should be Start > Run

Open an ms-dos prompt window and type (or just copy and paste each one like before) the following hitting enter after each line.

    regsvr32 Urlmon.dll
    regsvr32 Shdocvw.dll
    regsvr32 Shell32.dll
    regsvr32 Oleaut32.dll
    regsvr32 Actxprxy.dll
    regsvr32 Mshtml.dll

You will get a message if each one succeeded or not, do them all regardless and then restart your computer. Try your link/s now and let us know what happens.

Well I want to thank you Matacumbi it took awhile but I did it and I was surprised to find out just how patient I was ,I came close to cleaning my rifle today right in front of the computer but I decided against cleaning up plastic. Anyway it was a long drawn out proccess but it worked. Thanks again romie
