Gateway Laptop; Vista Home Premium SP1. Both the wifi and wired connections recognize the router, but I cannot log in to the router from this laptop. I know the router is OK 'cuz I'm using right now on this PC, and several other PCs are connected to it via wireless and wired. I've tried using Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Opera and none will surf. I've tried an ipconfig release & renew; the release was no problem, but the renew errored out on both adapters. I've tried the built-in Vista 'diagnose and repair' features for both adapters with no results. I have run a full SuperAntispyware scan; some minor MyWeb stuff was found and removed. I have uninstalled Symantec Endpoint security software; I have uninstalled the EarthLink software (the ISP is not EarthLink and I have no idea why the software was on this guys PC). I have checked both IPv4 and IPv6 to be sure they're set to 'automatic'.
:cry :banghead :boxing :confused :*** :crap
    Any ideas? Anyone?

OK- I just tried netsh winsock reset at the command prompt and it didn't work (yes, I entered the command prompt as administrator, and yes, I rebooted). I also noticed if I type an address in to the IE address bar, I get the 'page cannot be displayed' error, and whatever I just typed in to the address bar changes to 'http:///'. Yup, that's three slashes /// with nothing after it.
    :confused

Safe Mode with Networking any different?

Try netsh int ip reset at command prompt and reboot. (Reset TCP/IP stack)

Nope.... netsh int ip reset didn't do any good either, nor did Safe Mode w/ Networking. I tried numerous other fixes, including a system restore to about a month ago, and nothing worked. I ended up saving the dude's pics and music, formatting and reloading Vista clean- he needed the PC and couldn't wait for a 'real' fix....

Thanks for the input! I had been wondering how to reset the TCP/IP stack in Vista, and now I know! :-D
