You will get more help if you let us know more details :)

What is the old anti-virus software you had installed, and what exactly did you do to remove it?

    What OS are you running?

Try going to Start, My Computer, Local Disk C:, Documents and Settings, then check in Application Data folder in each of the folders listed. there will probably be one called All Users, Default User, Local Service, Network Service, and one with your user name on it. Open each one and look in the Application Data folder in each one for a folder with the name of the program you uninstalled but McAfee still says is there, probably Kaspersky. Delete it to Recycle Bin and leave for a few to make sure you deleted the right ones. You may need to go to Start, Control Panel, Folder Options, and under the View tab make sure Show hidden files and folders is selected under Hidden files and folders. I also remove the check mark next to Hide protected operating system files (Recommended), and Hide exrensions for known file types. When done go back and set it to the way it was. I have found it easier ro locate things by showing everything, but be careful what you delete, and who you let use your computer.
