Can't Get Rid of Trojan.BHO & Trojan.Vundo

My daughters computer has gotten infected with Tojan.BHO & Trojan.Vundo. I've tried my arsenal of antivirus programs repeatedly to get rid of them but they just come right back. It seems to be preventing browsers from accessing the internet and it won't let the antivirus programs update online (I've updated them manually). It does let Outlook download emails and her chat programs work (AIM & MSN Live). I usually am able to wipe them out eventually, but these have me stumped.

I've followed the READ & RUN ME FIRST, malware removal guide and downloaded the required programs on my PC and copied them to hers, and have generated the required logs. But it has not gotten rid of the Trojans. They appear to be in locked registry keys that can't seem to be deleted, even though all the programs I've run try to.

    Please help me.

I've attached the SuperAntiSpyware, Malwarebytes, and Spybot logs to the post.

I'm attaching the MGlogs.zip logs and the Combofix log to this post. In the combofix log it says I didn't install the console recovery, but I did go back and install it afterwards.

Well I guess your READ & RUN ME FIRST procedures actually did remove the viruses. When I posted I still couldn't access internet so assumed they were still there. Today I compared the LAN settings from our other computers to my daughters and hers had a Proxy server entry that should not have been there. Not sure how it got there, but I deleted it and VOILA the internet worked again. Ran SuperAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes again and both came up clean this time so one of the other programs in your guide must have removed my 2 troublemaker viruses, probably either combofix or mgtools. Thanks for developing the guide. I've got it bookmarked for the next time one of us gets a troublesome virus.

    Thanks guys!

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

You are way out of date with your version of SUPERAntiSpyware. So just to be safe, you should get the current version installed and run a new scan. It may come up clean but it is better to be safe than sorry.
    • Please uninstall your current version (this is necessary).
    • Then download this SUPERAntiSpyware
    • Install this new version. It may tell you that you need to reboot to complete the installation. You must reboot at this time.
    • After the reboot, run SUPERAntiSpyware and immediately click the Check for Updates button to get more updates for the database.
    • Now run a new full scan of your system. And attach this new log.
Now run this Disable/Remove Windows Messenger to remove Windows Messenger. Do not confuse Windows Messenger with MSN Messenger because they are not the same. Windows Messenger is a frequent cause of popups.

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {54EB34EA-E6BE-4CFD-9F4F-C4A0C2EAFA22} - (no file)

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Now we need to use ComboFix again.
    • Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
      • If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    • Also make sure you have shut down all protection software (antivirus, antispyware...etc) or they may get in the way of allowing ComboFix to run properly.
    • Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below quote box into it:
    • Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    • At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    • You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    • Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe
    • Follow the prompts.
    • When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    • I will ask for this log below
    Note:

Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

    Now run Ccleaner!

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:
    • C:\ComboFix.txt
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

So you want me to run all these things even though the 2 viruses are gone now? Thanks.

OK, I ran what you suggested. The viruses are still gone. So far the only problems I know of are my daughter says she was having problems watching something on "youtube" because it said she needed Java, but I removed her old Java and installed the latest, so I don't know what that is about. I just found out about that and haven't had a chance to check it out yet. The other problem began after I ran the changes you suggested. It started after either the MGtools/analyze.exe or the combofix, I can't remember which now. The problem is when I click on a link in my email (Outlook), I get the IE window, but it's blank inside with only the very top portion with the toolbar buttons and the URL line is blank. WHen I close the window, there is another window that says "Locate Link Browser" in the top bar, next bar says "look in:" and has "my documents" in a drop down menu, shows all the folders in "my documents", has drop down menus at the bottom for "file name" and "files of type" (with executable files *.exe selected). On the left is a gray vertical bar with 4 buttons for history, my documents, desktop , and favorites. If I open IE outside of Outlook, it works just fine. It's only within Outlook that is the problem. How do I fix that? And if you know why youtube is having a problem with the current Java, please let me know on that too.

I have attached the 3 logs that you requested.

    Thanks.

Based on your logs, it is not related to running these. ComboFix only removed the task/job file left over from the Vundo infection and MGtools does not remove anything. Try the below.

    1. Point the "Locate Link Browser" dialog to C:\Program files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe
    2. If number 1 does not help then in Internet Explorer, click Tools, Internet Options and select the Advanced tab. Then click the Restore Defaults button. Then goto the Programs tab and put check in the box that says Internet Explorer should check to see whether it is the default browser. Then click Apply. Then reboot and see if there is any change. Also see if this had any effect on you problem with youtube.
    3. If 1 & 2 do not help then check the below out:

    Your logs are now clean.
