Can't get routers to work with my ISP

I've never had this problem before with my ISP (Knology). But supposedly they had a scheduled maintenance real early this morning before 6 AM.

Well, ever sense they did maintenance the router will not work and neither will my old one. The new router is a netgear, the old one is a linksys.

I called them a few times and everything they had me try did not fix the problem.

I can get internet access connected directly to the modem just can't get the router to work.

When I right click and diagnose the problem it tells me that it's a connectivity issue with the modem. When I use my old linksys router and diagnose the problem it tells me that the DNS server is not responding.

Please help

I would try setting the router back to factory default and resetting the connection with the guide from your ISP. One of the first steps is cloning the MAC and with the maintenance performed by the ISP, it's possible that the router just needs to be recognized again by the modem.

I've tried this also. Still no luck.

 

Ok I'm back and having the same problem again. The internet has been working sense I last commented on this thread.

Now it just went out again and the ONLY way it works is directly connecting to the modem.

Why does this keep happening? How to fix it permanently and how to get internet working again on router?

In order to "permanently" fix the problem, we need to know which modem you have?
