Can't get to Safe Mode

I am trying to help a friend who downloading something probably a virus, and ever since her computer has been acting strange blinking, running programs on it's own, etc...I am trying to get her in safe mode, but when I instruct her and she boot-up, the disk checker comes on and forces her to check her drives. She is using Windows XP, can somebody help us?

Halo, the disk check froze, she forced the machine into safe mode, and started to run a McAfee scan and machine shut down, what do we do?

 

Try to run this scan in whichever mode you can run it in.

Download the following two files, create a folder on your desktop, call it TSC. Save these 2 files there.

Note: They must be in the same directory for it to work properly!

Pattern.zip

After you complete the above, locate the file "lpt139.zip", right click to extract the contents to the same directory.

Once you complete the steps above, REBOOT INTO SAFE MODE!

Once in Safe Mode double click the file sysclean.com. When the system cleaner loads, click SCAN to start the scanner. After you complete the scan reboot and attach a fresh HJT log along with the Trend SysClean Log.

 

Bjgarrick your the best brother, but she took it out of safe mode, (she is kind of stubborn) I convinced her to run a Kaspersky online scan along with spysweeper, i think we got all the infected files. She still needs to run disk check, but when a tech told her it took him 20 plus hours she got scared. At any rate thanks for your suggestion Bjgarrick you never answered one of my posts before, i am honored.

 

Feel free to attach any logs to confirm your clean. It's up to you.
