I recently added a 1 gig chip to the 512 I allready had , since then the option for standby or hibernation doesnt work, I contacted Micron PC and the advised me to increase wy page file so I did and still nothing. It used to hibernate when I closed the lid of my LT which is a great feature cause i am at multiple locations throughout the day. Is there anyone that maybe have seen this? Thanks

    Welcome to MajorGeeks!:)

As you didn't specify what type of system that you had or manufacturer, I am only guessing on this. If it is a laptop, as I'm assuming, since you mentioned shutting the lid, then visit the manufacturers web site and see how much ram your model supports. A lot of the laptops out now will only support 1 gig of memory and this could possibly be causing your problem!:)

Does hibernate start, then error out?

Try hibernating with the lid open. Go to start, shutdown, and hold shift to get the hibernate feature.

Sorry, I have a Micron PC transport 2300 laptop, winXP Pro , The manufacture told me to download new winXP updates which I did and also the told me to increase my page file wich I alloted 2500 mb to 5000 mb rebooted and still no Hibernation, under power options there is a check box thats says when lid is closed what do you want to happen I choose hibernation clicked apply and restarted , when i reopend power settins it reverted back to do nothing. also when I goto shutdown it use to say logoff, standby ,hibernat or shutdon now it only says logoff or shutdown. hope this helps. thanks

Try reinstalling your video drivers. Thats about the only time Standby does not show up on the sutdown menu.

Check your event viewer for errors. Specifically, the system log.

To do this, first Right click my computer, and go to manage. In COmputer Management, go to Event Viewer. Clear the System log, by selecting, right clicking, and choosing the option.

Then close the lid. Assuming you have set the computer to hibernate when the lid is closed, then give it about 15 seconds, reopen it, then check the system Event log.

Both times I reinstalled XP I had to install the video drivers before hibernate would function. Also, Hibernate wouldn't work when I added RAM until there was enough HD space for all of the RAM. BTW does anyone know why the video drivers have to be installed for hibernate to work? I surmise that it has something to do with the fact there is memory on the card.

Drivers have to support the ability to wakeup from standby, and probably hibernate, too.

Inbox, generic drivers do not support such functionality.
