    Hi,
I have uninstalled my anti virus because i thought it had a problem & tried to re-install it. when i tried to install a new version of AVG it almost completed but didnt succeed to start the new service.
I tried nod32 & got en error: "Service 'Eset Services' (ekrn) failed to start
verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services"

Also, a couple more points i believe are relevant:
i can not start windown in safe mode - it gives me a blue crash screen
i can not restore computer to an earlier date

any ideas & help will be great,
    Cheers

    Hi and welcome to MajorGeeks,

Does it boot to windows, by the title you're still trying to install a antivirus program? If boots, look in your Task Manager for any processes that starts with AVG or NOD they will look like below. And stop trying to install antivirus programs until fixed. Having multiple antivirus programs is a formula for disaster. Did you try to install anything else? Let us know what you find in processes.

    avgam.exe
    avgemc.exe
    avgiproxy.exe
    avgnsx.exe
    avgtray.exe
    avgui.exe
    avgupd.exe
    avgwdsvc.exe

    nod32krn.exe
    nod32.exe

    Hi,
    Thans for your reply.
Windows can boot ok, it just doesnt' boot in safe mode.
i have looked in the task manager & i have there a process named: avgwsvc.exe

i understand from this that the first anti virus wasnt really & completly uninstalled?

a couple days back i have installed successfuly a few programs

Do you have AVG listed in Programs? I'm guessing this was AVG 8 if not report back.

follow 1248: http://free.avg.com/ww.faq.num-1238#faq_1238 and remove AVG per instructions.

After uninstalling reboot, look again in Task Manager for AVG Processes.

...if AVG processes are gone, look for NOD processes in Task Manager, are they there? Is NOD listed in your program files?

    ekrn.exe
    egui.exe

Most likely you tried installing the trial of NOD while AVG watchdog was still active.

All this installing of Anti is due to a problem on your PC? If so, it would be best to stop trying to fix it yourself and let the experts here in Malware do it. You have to uninstall all but one antivirus program prior to doing the READ & RUN ME in malware. So if you installed others besides NOD remove them also.
