can't install shockwave

Hi,

I can't install shockwave on vista. When I try, the bar comes up on the adobe website saying that it is installing, but I don't get the yellow bar at the top of the screen that prompts me to download active x. The screen seems to freeze.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled flash player and have reset internet explorer options to default settings (as advised in another post). I've also run cc cleaner. I'm not sure if they're connected, but I've uninstalled & reinstalled java runtime environment.

I'd be grateful for any help!

Go into IE > Tools > Internet Options > Security tab > select Custom level… > then change "Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe" to Prompt if it is not already set to this level.
