    Hi

i recently tried installing windows on a new formated hdd (fat32 system) and when it was copying windows files i had to skip couple files

then it restarted the computer and when it said windows is checking your disk at 100% it froze for a long time and said that C drive is corrupted or damage ..sumthin like that

What is wrong? i can access that formated hdd with my 40 gb and copy files to it without any problems
    thanks

What do you mean you had to skip a couple of files?

If you were prompted by the installer of XP during the installation then you had some read errors on your CD. Make sure the CD is clean on the bottom and not too scratched up. also try a different CDROM.

Use a manufacturer's utility to check your hard drive.

We have most available here in the downloads section.

If your running a 120G HD you should be running NTFS not FAT32.

Also you should be running an ATA 66/100/133 ribbon on the 120G where a ATA 33 ribbon on a CDROM is sufficent. The visual difference is the size of the wire. The ATA 66/100/133 has 3 different colored connectors and has smaller wire than the ATA 33 which also usually has all black connectors.

well this what i did for my primary ide connected i hooked my 40 gb hdd which had the OS n then for my secondary ide controller i hooked the 120 gb hdd and it booted to windows fine and i was able to access both drives

but why cant i just hook both up with the primary ide controller one as master and other slave

is there a problem with the ide cable?? cuz i think the hdd isnt damaged since i can acesss it

and the jumper settings are fined (all set to cable select) and the cables are set properly

also note ** when i tried using a new ide cable (the one i got with my cd rom ) and hooked my 40gb as master and 120gb as slave on the primary controller ide it worked fine but it didnt loadto windows it just hung in the boot screen and i couldsee the red light turned on not flashing

I have experienced many times when I was not able to get a new, large drive to connect on the same ribbon as a smaller drive regardless of which was primary or master. If I split them to one on each controller then they would work but I usually have to put the cdrom as slave to the smaller drive in this situation. I'm not sure but I think it has to do with the method of translation the drive has to exercise to read and write.

Don't use Cable Select. It doesn't always work, and it requires a special IDE cable.

Hook both drives up to your Primary Controller using Master/Slave jumper settings instead.

i tried that and it didnt work .... ummm could the ide controller be damaged
    or is it the HDD

i still have warrenty for it till march 12 i hope they can replace me with a new one or repair it

It may be the cable itself.

You will have to go through a process of elimination unless you stumble on the culprit.

Also, swap things around and try the Secondary Controller to isolate the problem.

this time i hooked my 120 gb FAT32 and ran the windows setup and when it was checking the disk agian at 100% it actually didnt hung and it said it has found no errors on C drive and continued with the setup

im trying to elimnate stuff here to find the exact problem .. my big concern is the ide cable until i dont get a new one i wont be able to elimante problems

Try (with Windows installed the way it is now) installing something like a CD drive to the Primary Controller and see if it works.

That will tell you if it's the Primary Controller or not.
