First off, THANKS for the great step-by-step instructions in the
    "do this first" page.

Here's the deal--Everytime I open Firefox, it waits a few seconds and then
loads a pop-up that goes behind my Firefox window. It is almost always
for ad.firstadsolutions.com, and the window looks like an IE window more
than a Firefox window. I just right-click the tab at the bottom of my
screen and close it, and go on my way. It doesn't SEEM to be doing more
than that, but what do I know?

I followed the instructions on your "start here" tutorial. My scan are
attached, as well as the HijackThis log. I'm running Win2000, SP4
(well, it says it is, but then Defender said it wasn't SP4, so I ended up
    running CounterSpy)

I had to run the two online scans in normal boot, I couldn't get them to
    go in Safe Mode.

Please advise on what I need to do. I'm afraid to do anything with that
machine except clean it (I'm posting this from my other machine).

    THANKS!

    Welcome to Majorgeeks.

You forgot to attach your CounterSpy log as requested in the READ ME.

Before we get started, I have a few questions to ask:

    1) Did you download and install LSAdump on this PC? See:
    http://www.bindview.com/Services/RAZOR/Utilities/Windows/lsadump2_readme.cfm

There are two files related to it:
    E:\WINNT\system32\dumplsa.dll
    E:\WINNT\system32\lsadump2.exe

    2) Is your copy of Ewido a paid version or a free trial version?

    3) Did you install the below DOS utility to control reboots?
    O4 - Startup: Reboot.exe

    4) Did you install WinPCAP to capture packets on your PC?

    O23 - Service: Remote Packet Capture Protocol v.0 (experimental) (rpcapd) - Unknown owner - %ProgramFiles%\WinPcap\rpcapd.exe" -d -f "%ProgramFiles%\WinPcap\rpcapd.ini (file missing)

    5) Did you configure the below ProxyServer settings for some reason?

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyServer = localhost:6502

Now let's start some fixes. You have multiple LOP infections.

Make sure viewing of hidden files is enabled (per the tutorial).

Run HijackThis and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {DA5DE641-7A0D-A09D-D793-BEF9EA5DC476} - E:\DOCUME~1\ADMINI~1\APPLIC~1\INTERN~1\twosixth.exe (file missing)
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Fastelseburnthird] E:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Moreloudfastelse\Great error.exe
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [64BIN] E:\DOCUME~1\ADMINI~1\APPLIC~1\DEBUGI~1\Creative regs.exe

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.
Boot into safe mode and use Windows Explorer to delete
    :
    E:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Moreloudfastelse <-- the whole folder
E:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\debug iso live <-- the whole folder
    E:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\INTERN~1\twosixth.exe
If you get an error when deleting a file. Right click on the file and check to see if the read only attribute is checked. If it is, uncheck it and try again. Other wise open Task Manager and kill the process if running then delete the file.

Now if running Win XP goto c:\windows\Prefetch and delete all files in this folder.
Now run Ccleaner (installed while running the READ ME FIRST)
    .

Now we need to Reset Web Settings:
    1. If you have an Internet Explorer icon on your Desktop, goto step 2. If not, skip to step 3.
    2. Now right click on your desktop Internet Explorer icon and select Properties. Then click the Programs tab and then click "Reset Web Settings". Now go back to the General tab and set your home page address to something useful like www.majorgeeks.com. Click Apply. Click Delete Cookies, Click Delete Files and select Delete all Offline content too, Click OK. When it finishes Click OK. Then skip step 3.
    3. If you do not have an Internet Explorer icon on your Desktop, click Start, Control Panel (for some systems it may be Start, Settings, Control Panel), Internet Options, Programs tab and then click "Reset Web Settings". Now go back to the General tab and set your home page address to something useful like www.majorgeeks.com. Click Apply. Click Delete Cookies, Click Delete Files and select Delete all Offline content too, Click OK. When it finishes Click OK.
Now reboot in normal mode and post a new HJT log.

Make sure you tell me how things are working now.

Reminder Note: Once we have determined you are malware free you will need to disable System Restore, reboot, and re-enable system restore per step 1 of the READ & RUN ME. This only applies to if using WinXP or WinMe.

Sorry I forgot the CounterSpy log. I have attached the new CounterSpy
log, and for what it's worth, the first one shows the same info--nothing
    found--sorry for the oversight nonetheless.

    1) I don't believe I ever installed LSAdump (at least not that I recall)

    2) The Ewido I'm using is the free trial version

    3) This machine is set up to dual boot (I used Partition Magic to set that
up when I installed Win2000 a long time ago), so the DOS reboot is
    probably valid

    4) I believe I did install the WinPCAP, but I don't really use it much
now, if you think it could be a problem, I can remove it.

    5) I don't THINK I ever set up that proxyserver, but I can't be 100% sure.
I used to use that machine to dial into work, and there may have been
settings for that, but I don't do that anymore. Actually, I don't use
IE unless I have to. I much prefer Firefox.

I followed your instructions for item removal and rerunning cleanups.

I booted in normal mode, and Firefox no longer seems plagued by popups.
    THANK YOU!

My new HJT log and the CounterSpy log are attached.

Would you recommend any more fixes? I'm running Win2000, so I have
no System Restore to do, right? (You said XP and Me only).

    THANKS again!

Okay we will remove them below!

As long as you installed it, then everything is okay. If you do not need it anymore, it would be a good idea to uninstall it.

    We'll fix this too.

You appear to have missed one of the items I asked you to fix. Let's try again and we'll add the other items too.

First uninstall the CounterSpy trial because you no longer need it.

Now let's start some fixes. You have multiple LOP infections.

Make sure viewing of hidden files is enabled (per the tutorial).

Run HijackThis and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [64BIN] E:\DOCUME~1\ADMINI~1\APPLIC~1\DEBUGI~1\Creative regs.exe
    O20 - Winlogon Notify: ATINotify - logonnfy.dll (file missing)

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.
Boot into safe mode and use Windows Explorer to delete:
E:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\debug iso live <-- the whole folder
    E:\WINNT\system32\dumplsa.dll
    E:\WINNT\system32\lsadump2.exe

    I have unstalled CounterSpy.
I used HJT to remove the lines you indicated.

I deleted the dumplsa and lsadump2, but I could not find the
"debug iso live" folder, which I thought I deleted previously when you told
me to the first time. However, I could not (ever) find the file
"E:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\INTERN~1\twosixth.exe", and I forgot to mention that before.
I tried to search for "twosixth" anywhere, but found nothing.

I reran CCleaner, and reset IE again, as you described.

Here is the new HJT log. Firefox is working (Yaaaay!) without the
annoying popups that started all this.

THANK YOU again, and if you see more I should fix, please let me know!
