    Hi there,

I came across this forum simply by searching google and finding another thread where someone had a similar problem (http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=136340). Anyway, certain websites simply won't load on my computer - this includes Facebook, the "sell" pages of ebay, windows updates and aol.co.uk.

I only recently set up new broadband after moving house, from TalkTalk. Although my computer is c. 6 years old, on my old broadband before moving all sites worked fine. When I set TalkTalk up, attempted installation of their anti-virus software made my computer cycle on restart (restarting again every time the desktop appeared). It wouldn't even start on Safe Mode, and in the end the only thing I could do was System Recovery. After this, installing broadband went fine, and I didn't attempt to use their anti-virus software again. However, the websites listed above have never worked on my connection, although otherwise the connection is fine. I have checked the following:

Checked Java is up to date
Tried disabling all firewall and antivirus software - still wouldn't load
Tried using different browsers (IE and Firefox)
    Restarting modem, restarting computer etc.
    Cleared cache, cookies etc

I then went through all the basic maintenance tasks on this forum, before following the malware guide on the thread listed above. I have attached my logs for Counterspy, Runkeys, Shownew and HijackThis. However, I couldn't get Bitdefender or Pandascan to run (note - I'm not using Vista, but Windows XP), either on safe mode or normal boot mode. Bitdefender failed to download all the virus updates, and eventually timed itself out (I tried several times), while Pandascan updated, but then failed to start the actual scan (again, several times, even after restart). If anyone has any idea of anything else I can try, it would be much appreciated, as it's causing problems for some work I do from home!

    Thanks a lot,
    Sarah

    Hello Sarah,

I had the same problem with Facebook, ebay or any site that required a log on basically.

I'm sure my solution will differ slightly to yours, but i would suggest. Follow this guide to the letter.

Including the add remove programs of malware (i missed some bits there)

    and removing P2P software.

Then follow the XP cleaning procedure.

Also i would of posted in the Malware Removal Forum here, you'll prob get more of a response to what your looking for there.

Also try restarting into safe mode with networking. If facebook/ebay etc work ok on there then its virtually identical to my problem and solveable by one of the kind chaps/chapesses here.

If you simply want a virus scanner that works in safe/dos mode F-Prot is one i'd recommend.

once you come to the end of all those instructions all the needed log files for the clever B@$tards here are automatically produced in the format/way/on a clean system, the way they want it. :)
