Can't load my email program

Since last Wed (almost a week now) I have been unable to load my email under my user account. It will open under 379's user account but there is no info there and my emails don't show. They might show up if I add my email addy to it but I don't care to have to open his user account to read my emails when I know there is an unsolved problem under mine.

I get an error dialog box everytime I try to open it that says:

"IncrediMail Application has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

This happened after he downloaded and installed KaZaa. WEll, other problems include not being able to restore to a point before that install, can't uninstall KaZaa because Windows is unable to find a component it needs, shutting down in the middle of something without warning.

So I have updated Spybot, AdAware, scanned and deleted what they found. Updated AVG and come up clean. Downloaded and run Hijack This, deleted 5 items. Rebooted several times. Also downloaded KaZaa Begone and run it. Nothing is helping.

I still cannot open IM or restore to a point before this started. I've been working with Security Cops trying to figure out what has been messed up but still nothing is fixed except getting KaZaa off my computer.

I haven't found any virus or trojan on my system and spyware is supposedly gone. What do I try next?

Changed that line. I am not looking for opinions on my software choices. I am looking for suggestions to get the ones I like working again.

I do not believe IncrediMail is the cause of the problem, merely a symptom. I am looking for help to find the underlying cause. IM worked just fine for over 3 years on my computer. I want it to work another 3 years or more.

It still works under one user account but not under mine as it did when I went to bed Wed afternoon. This would seem to indicate that something changed WinXP, presumably KaZaa which is now gone and won't be back anytime soon.

WinXP will not restore to any prior Restore Point. This also points to something in WinXP.
The computer completely shut down on my son although I have not had any problems with that. Again, something in WinXP has been changed.

I need to find out what was changed and fix that. Then everything else will work just fine.

Hi Flessa, since the box says "Incredimail has encountered a problem . . ." I wonder if it's butting heads somehow with Outlook Express. Maybe in a connection war with it? Dunno, I'm not a geek but maybe it's worth checking out.

I don't think so since I try opening IM without having OE open. And I didn't use OE until the day after this started when I suddenly remembered that it was on the computer and I wouldn't have to drift in a sea of no emails until I figured out the problem. ;) They have existed side by side since I first started using IM 3 years ago.

Messenger? Nope, I already re downloaded and reinstalled IM once with no results.

I'm going to try comparing my Documents and Settings file with his file and see what might be different in the two since IM opens in one user account but not the other. Makes absolutely no sense to me.

Nope, that didn't work. Couldn't open anything in any way I could decipher.

Also opened Regedit but couldn't figure out where to even begin looking so I closed that again.

Wahoo!! Got my IncrediMail back up and running. Finally found the right registry keys to delete before reinstalling it. Success at last. Except my saved emails didn't make it back like they were supposed too.
