Can't log on

Windows XP. When I start my desktop computer, the log on screen does not have the Administrator Button, so I can't log on as an administrator, only as a guest. Therefore I can't run restore or change any settings or create a new user account.
How do I log on as an administrator so I can fix it?

 

Have you tried from Safe Mode?

 

No. How do you start in Safe Mode in XP?

 

Restart the system and start tapping the F8 key repeatedly, if the windows boot screen appears before you started tapping F8 you waited too long. Soon a menu will appear, select Safe Mode. You should see a logon screen similar to the Windows Welcome screen, except this one will have the Administrator Account on it.

BTW, for security purposes any GUEST account on your computer should be disabled.

 

If I didn't have a guest account I wouldn't have anything now. Don't have much, can't even get on the internet. May have to reload XP.

 

Safe Mode got me going. I should have known that.

Ozlander i recently removed the password i had set up on my computer (i am the only account/administrator) and when i rebooted it prompted me for a password, and would not recognize my only previous password which i had removed...

couldn't boot in safe mode either....

to log on, i simply had to click OK when asked for a password, without typing in anything... weird but it works.... my brother had the same exact problem when he removed his pw on his comp....


both of us running XP Home....
