    I am having the same problem as this fellow http://forum.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?p=736664#post736664

    I'll sum it up here though so that you dont have to go to the other forum. When I go start-->run-->cmd the black command prompt will open and immeditally close. I can't see any text or error messages popping up and same with the tracert command. From reading the forum above it looks like it was suggested that it is malware on my computer. I first did my normal scans in safe mode but couldn't fix what was going on. So I was very detailed and followed the sticky step by step thread on removing malware. With all the scans and test I wasn't able to fix or even determine the problem. So i've got my hijack log here trying to see if anyone can lend any ideas about this.

    Not quite! Please read step 6 again and run both online scanners and attach the logs as requested in the sticky.

    Did you read my message in the thread you referenced? See msg # 9 where I talk about .com files. Look in your C:\windows\system32 folder and provide a list of what .com files you see and also what their file size is.

    I'm sorry i'm not posting what i am suppose to with the malware but I havent had time to run the scans, just havent had the time. However I had someone help me out with some suggestions that worked and I was wondering if anyone could tell me what this means....

    These are my findings (I am at work not at home but I tested this stuff out before i came in)

    1) start-->run-->cmd===opens and closes
    2) start-->run-->cmd.exe===command prompt opens
    -------
    ***In the command prompt***
    -------
    ***this is what it looks like to me
    c:\documents and settings\marc> ping yahoo.com

    c:\docume~1\Marc>
    -----------------
    Above that is exactly what it shows, I dont know why it appreviates the folder.

    ****but if i do it this way this is what i see (starting completely over with cmd.exe)****
    ------------
    c:\documents and settings\marc> ping.exe yahoo.com

    Pinging yahoo.com etc.
    reply etc
    reply etc.......
    **working properly, I just abbreviated it**

    And it does not revert to "c:\docume~1\Marc>"
    It shows the entire folder name for the next command
    -------------
    To me this just looks like a problem with the file extensions. I dont know if I am completely off or not and I'm sure that it has something to do with malware. But I read on another forum that Norton can do this too. I had norton internet security a few weeks back and I never had this problem before but I havent tried to ping in a while. Norton Internet Secuirty was removed before I even noticed this. Thats about all the information I have right now, does anyone have any suggestions?

    Thanks for any help

    Sorry forgot one more thing.....

    Even though I have enabled to view all hidden files and folders, the only way I can access system32 is to manually enter in the folder address into the address? Related problem? or am I just missing something simple?

    Okay! So why did you say the below in you first message:
    If means you must do what was requested in the sticky and you also need to give me the list of .com files I requested in message # 3.
