I'm running XP home and have a hotmail account set up in Outlook. I can't open any links that I get in my e-mails. The only thing I've done as far as tweaking is to get rid of messenger. Is that my problem? or is there something else I need to do? Thanks

Its all over the forum, just waiting to be searched and found.

    Most common fix is:

    start- run, regsvr32.exe urlmon.dll
    click OK

Might have to do this one too:

    start-run, regsvr32.exe mshtml.dll
    click OK

    Did you check the MSKB?

    Poor little kitties :(

I did a search after doing the two fixes above and did all of the regsvr32 adds and still no dice. The second part: verifying hklm? I don't know where to go [don't answer that :) ] to do that and I didn't find out how in search. It took me twenty mins to find my first problem, Searches and I don't get along. I did see that you'll are rude :) and I've found out also that P.E.T.A. doesn't like you. So try and do better will ya ;)

HKLM is loacated in the registry.

    Start, run, regedit.

If none of the above posts listed by robo help, help us help you.

Go to msconfig (start, run), go to Services tab, check the box that says Hide all Microsoft services, and then post what is left in the list.

Then, go to your startup tab, and post what is in that list.

As for P.E.T.A., they know kittie homicide is not a labor of love, and blame all of those making me do it!! :D

Lexbce will be required for printing, robo.

Lexbce (it is made by Lexmark) is used by both Lexmark and Xerox printers. Same company?

    Maybe.

Try a new user account and test to see if it works there.

What version of Outlook are you using?

I would possibly do a repair of Outlook and see if that repairs it... cannot remember which was the earliest version to use Detect & Repair ( under Help menu ) tho! but Office XP and 2003 have this option.

or ( and my friends Adrynalyne & Robo will be proud ) have a look at this from the MSKB http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;329925 Adryn and Robo what you both think of this as a possible fix... I have Outlook but dont use it for emails ( prefer OE ) and my hyperlinks work OK so I cannot recreate mgrist's error?

    Halo wins!

I shall sacrifice a kitten in your honor.

Oh wait, you went to the KB.

Kittie gets to live another day ;)

    Nice catch Halo.

In all honesty I was skeptical. That fix has never worked for me since I've been working with XP ;)

    G.T. R.I.P February 4, 2007. You will be missed.

If you're using Outlook 2000 SP2 or later, there's a good chance it's Outlook's "improved" security protocols, which block access to anything executable to help keep people from infecting themselves with viruses etc. And they don't offer any way to allow access.

Steve Bass (from PC World) recommended this highly some time back, and it works great. Gives you the choice of allowing various executables in Outlook which are now crippled. Most of them you won't want to enable, as nobody is likely to send you a .vbs attachment for fun, but .url is one of the blocked executables. Which you can enable.

With Outlook 2000 you'll need Service Pack 3.
    Grab it here:

[edit] Just noticed this was for Outlook Express instead of Outlook, but for anyone else reading this concerned with Outlook, this is a great little app.

Thanks G.T. I've got outlook but I only use it in conjunction with my hand held. I've saved that page just in case.
