Can't open Mozilla Firefox

Mozilla Firefox will not open. The icon is still there but the hourglass sits there for 2-3 seconds and then goes away. I can open Explorer though. This has happened before but I don't remember how I got it back. I have tried reloading the browswer but it doesn't work.
I have also lost my cd/dvd driver and usb ports.....don't know if that is related or not. I use Window XP with service pack 3.

Malware Removal Guide follow all the instructions very carefully carrying out all the steps that are asked of you and then repost into the malware forum with the required logs, then be really patient as the malware fighters are really busy people, if you have any difficulties throughout this process please do not hesitate to ask by posting into the malware forum and explain exactly what stage your up to !

First try to run it in safemode (FF safe mode NOT safe mode of windows) and if it works, it is an addon that is causing the problem.

I would go with Plodrs suggestion to start with as Safe Mode for Firefox will rule out many things as in the aforementioned bad add-on, bad as in not compatible or corrupt.
