Cant ping Battlefield 2 servers

I just played Battlefield 2 online with the 1.3 patch last night. I patched it to 1.4 this morning and I couldn't get any servers to ping besides these 13 or so servers that almost instantly pop up. When I try to connect to them, is says "Unable to connect to server. Please check your network connections."

I turned off my firewall and it didn't make a difference.

I disabled all of my firewall settings on my router (Linksys WRT54G).

I installed the full 1.4 patch again and nothing changed.

It also takes a bit longer to connect to the account server when I'm logging on. But I can still see my stats in-game so it connects correctly. I can also play single player fine with no probs. I was playing with 1.3 fine just last night so I dunno what this patch could have changed as far as my network is concerned.

Thanks in advance for any help you guys can offer.

Well I tried to ping one of the few servers that show up (but cant connect to) and it would reply with a normal ping, but not with my specified port.

The server ip is 72.36.225.228 and I need to use port 16567 to play online on it. So when I pinged 72.36.225.228:16567, I got a message that said "ping request could not find host 72.36.225.228:16567. Please check the name and try again."

But I could normally ping and tracert this server fine. Though I occasionally drop a couple packets on the trace route.

Edit: This may not have anything to do with this; but shouldn't I be able to ping my own PCs IP and get a reply? Because I dont.

I wish there wasn't a time limit to edit your posts here. I needed to add that I cant ping my PC from my router. It just times out. This is while my firewall(s) are disabled too.

Correct you should be able to ping LAN and WAN LAN is the number looking like so 192.168.1.1 and ur WAN is say soemthing like 55.241.23.33

I can ping the WAN IP my ISP gave me. But I cant ping the IP that I assigned myself within the subnet of my router. I gave my router the gateway IP of 7.7.7.1 and my PC is 7.7.7.2 (I dont use DHCP, everything is static). I cant ping 7.7.7.2 from my PC and also I cant ping if from my router. I can ping everything else fine though.

There is clearly a problem with your connection/router.

    What router are you using?

Try opening Command Prompt, and ping either "192.168.0.1" or "192.168.1.1"

If you get any packet loss, that's where your problem lies.

I dont think it's at my router cuz I can take my router off my network and plug directly into my modem and my problem hasn't changed. I cant ping those IPs you gave me because I dont use the default IPs that the router comes with for security reasons. I manually set the IPs myself and turned the DHCP off so that if someone happens to get by my wireless excryption and MAC addy filter, they still wont be able to pull an IP from my router via DHCP. That's the reason for the weird 7.7.7.0 subnet.

That's why, try having them set to auto.

I tried that, still no difference. Why would it matter if I disconnected my router and plugged directly into my modem too (I turned the auto ip detection on when I did that too). The problem isn't at the router!

Anyone know why it would time out when I ping myself from the cammand prompt and also when I try to ping my PC from my router? Or how I can check to see if those ports are being blocked by some other software?

Try upgrading ur Firmware for ur router Also if your getting packet loss when u ping from the router then you could have a bad ethernet line ( the internet line coming from router to your computer) I would try to buy a new one becuase if it has any bends or turns it could haev farad the line and that will cause packet loss also I been think do you use a onboard RG45 port (ur internet connetion port) If so i would try buying a NEW ethernet card and see if that will fix the problem I think ether u have a bad driver or a driver is confliting try doing that.

P.S. If u do buy new ethernet card they are PCI cards you can go to Walmart or such and get them for about $17

Tard, did you ever get your networking issues sorted?

    Tard,
BTW I have the same problem... different history though.

I just got done building this Windows XP Pro 64 bit OS computer, no conflicts and the internet browsing works fine. However I have the same problems:

    Battlefield 2
I can run the game, set the options. However when I try to retrieve my account it gives me an error mentioning something about sockets couldn't be created etc. Also no multiplayer servers show up on the list, the update server list button is unresponsive. Lastly the host multiplayer or singleplayer options results in a desktop crash and closes BF2.

    FEAR,
I can enter the game fine, setup the options etc. This is another game that has an unresponsive update server list button, and any attempt to host a game to "play the game" results in a aborted attempt sending me back to the server list. At least this game doesn't crash out back to desktop.

    Ghost Recon Adance Warfighter,
Runs fine, I can even play singleplayer on this game (a relief) however, internet modes are also hosed as any attempt to make a account or retrieve an account are denied (no response, it doesn't actually send any data outbound), and the server refresh button is unresponsive as well.

I can however browse the web fine. This is very puzzling. I use a linksys router and use a hard line connection. Just FYI for anybody who would like to trouble shoot this, I have a computer next to this one in question that runs these games fine and is able to see multiplayer server lists come up without a problem as well. So this issue is isolated to something regarding this new box I setup.

    Any feedback is greatly appreciated.
