Can't Print to Network Printers

I am running Windows XP on two computers. The printers are connected with cables to the main computer (desktop) which runs the network. The second computer (laptop) is connected to the network wirelessly. We've been printing to these printers faultlessly for years. Today when attempting to print from the laptop, I get an error message saying the 'print spooler' is not working. I downloaded the app from Microsoft to check the spooler and it found no problems on either computer. I ran services.msc on each computer and it said the spoolers were working, but I stopped them, restarted them, rebooted the computers and it didn't solve the problem. Each computer will print fine to a printer connected to it by cable. The network itself seems to be OK, the laptop can access the Internet and the desktop can access files on the laptop. I'm mystified. Is there a separate spooler used only by the network? If so, how do I check it? Any input on where else to look will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. (And, no I haven't installed any new hardware or software to either computer recently).
