Can't Pull Bookmarks Up/make New Ones, Favorite Icons Lost From New Page

I have Windows 10 and I've followed all the instructions so I'm still covered (sort of). But after restarting my desktop, I can't bookmark a page or pull up any of the old ones.
I also had icons for my favorite websites come up on any new page I opened, but they've disappeared.

I have CCleaner 7, and Malwarebytes, which prompted me to get VPN, and I don't know if this caused the problems, or if this was the result of automatic updates. I took VPN off and restarted the computer, but the trouble is still there. PLEASE HELP!
