Cant receive Windows XP 3.0 update

I read the other threads but they didn't seem to address my problem.....I found out that Microsoft is no longer offering free tech support for my problem...My security update for windows XP 3.0 wont load after several attempts (about 5 months worth) Subsequently my CD Rom drive is not working nor even showing up in my hardware profiles. I tried Microsoft Fix It to no Avail....Any advice would be deeply appreciated. Is there anything I can Download for free here at MajorGeeks that REALLY works to fix this?
