    Please Help!!

I have read the sticky threads and have done everything. I did everything in the spy sheriff removal sticky, but still no luck. The winstall file keeps coming back, and I get the red circle with the X in the bottom corner that says "your computer is infected." This will go away for a short time, but always comes back. I have run all the scans in safe mode, I have removed the files in safemode. It keeps finding: spy sheriff, pest trap and spyware no. The virus scanners found no viruses.

I put it in normal starup mode.....and here is my hjt log.

Now, I am going to step away from this computer (before I go crazy), hopefully there will be good news when I return.

    Thanks:)

Actually you have not complete the requirements stated in the READ & RUN ME sticky nor does it look like you did everything stated in the SpySherif Removal sticky since I still see items from it in your HJT log. (like this for example: O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Windows installer] C:\winstall.exe )

Please follow our standard cleaning procedures which are necessary for us to provide you support. Also there are steps included for installing, running, and posting HijackThis logs as attachments.
    • Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support
    • Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.
    • Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.
    • After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis and attach a log:
    Downloading, Installing, and Running HijackThis

Make sure you also rename HijackThis.exe as suggested in the procedures. Use analyse.exe for the new name. This is very important due to some new infections going around.

    • When you return to make your next post, make sure you attach the following logs and that you have run these scans in the following order too:

      • [*]runkeys.txt - the log from GetRunKey.bat
        [*]newfiles.txt - the log from ShowNew.bat
      • CounterSpy - ONLY IF you were not able to run Windows Defender
      • Bitdefender - from step 6
      • Panda Scan - from step 6
      • HijackThis
NOTE: You can only attach 3 files in a single message so it will require that you use two messages to attach all of these logs!

Sorry about that. I have done the tutorials a few times with no luck. As for the winstall file, no matter what I do it comes back.

These scans were run in safe mode--
Microsoft malicious Software removal tool-found nothing
    Spybot-pesttrap, smithfraud-c.
    Windows defender-nothing

I was not able to run bitdefender in safemode.

I still have the red X in the bottom right corner. I can find the process and end it, but it always comes back with a diferent name.

I also completed the spyware sheriff sticky thread with no luck.

Thanks so much for your help!

You must run the second online scanner given in step 6 (PandaActiveScan) and attach the log!

You did not attach a log yet. Also your last HJT log indicated it was not run. It should have been run before HJT.

Now Download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri) to your Desktop.

Extract all the files to your Destop. A folder named
SmitfraudFix will be created on your Desktop.

    Open the
    SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press Enter
This program will scan large amounts of files on your computer for known patterns so please be patient while it works. When it is done, the results of the scan will be displayed and it will create a log named rapport.txt in the root of your drive, eg: Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please attach that log in your next reply.

Note:process.exe ( which is used my SmitFraudFIx ) is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user. The below is a link to what process.exe is.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other options until you are asked to do so!

PLEASE READ ALL OF THESE INSTRUCTIONS FIRST BEFORE DOING ANYTHING. Ask any questions that you may have before starting.

Please print out or copy these instructions to Notepad as the internet will not be (while in Safe Mode) available to you at certain points of the removal process. Make sure to work through all the Steps in the exact order in which they are listed below. Again, if there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before moving on with the fixes.

Reboot your computer into Safe Mode per the safe directions in the READ & RUN ME.

Open the SmitfraudFix Folder of your Desktop, then double-click smitfraudfix.cmd file to start the tool.

Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press Enter.
Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish.
You will be prompted : "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?" answer Yes by typing Y and hit Enter.

The tool will also check if wininet.dll is infected. If it is infected and a clean version is found, you will be prompted to replace the infected wininet.dll with the clean file. Answer Yes to the question "Replace infected file ?" by typing Y and hit Enter.

A reboot may be needed to finish the cleaning process, if you computer does not restart automatically please do it yourself manually. BUT Reboot in Safe Mode.

The tool will create a log named rapport.txt in the root of your drive, eg: Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please attach this log along in your next reply.

After doing the above continue with the below.

Make sure viewing of hidden files is enabled (per the tutorial).

Please run HijackThis and click on the Open the Misc Tools Section button on the open page. Then select Open process manager on the left-hand side. Look for the following process (or processes) and one at a time kill them by selecting it and then click Kill process. Then click yes.
    C:\Documents and Settings\Heather\lyfnxokk.exe

After killing all the above processes, click Back.
Then please click Scan and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [gwiz] C:\WINDOWS\system32\ntsystem.exe
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Windows installer] C:\winstall.exe

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.
Boot into safe mode and use Windows Explorer to delete:
    C:\Program Files\PestTrap
    C:\Documents and Settings\Heather\bhzhmwuz.exe
    C:\Documents and Settings\Heather\gyxhafdt.exe
    C:\Documents and Settings\Heather\lyfnxokk.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\ntsystem.exe
    C:\winstall.exe
    C:\3d194c98-084c-4dbe-9b2b-7f1672d4f28b.cab

If you get an error when deleting a file. Right click on the file and check to see if the read only attribute is checked. If it is, uncheck it and try again. Other wise open Task Manager and kill the process if running then delete the file.

Now if running Win XP goto c:\windows\Prefetch and delete all files in this folder.
Now run Ccleaner (installed while running the READ ME FIRST).

Now we need to Reset Web Settings:
    1. If you have an Internet Explorer icon on your Desktop, goto step 2. If not, skip to step 3.
    2. Now right click on your desktop Internet Explorer icon and select Properties. Then click the Programs tab and then click "Reset Web Settings". Now go back to the General tab and set your home page address to something useful like www.majorgeeks.com. Click Apply. Click Delete Cookies, Click Delete Files and select Delete all Offline content too, Click OK. When it finishes Click OK. Then skip step 3.
    3. If you do not have an Internet Explorer icon on your Desktop, click Start, Control Panel (for some systems it may be Start, Settings, Control Panel), Internet Options, Programs tab and then click "Reset Web Settings". Now go back to the General tab and set your home page address to something useful like www.majorgeeks.com. Click Apply. Click Delete Cookies, Click Delete Files and select Delete all Offline content too, Click OK. When it finishes Click OK.
Note for IE 7 users: You need to select Internet Options then the Advanced tab and then Reset Internet Explorer Settings!

Now attach a new HJT log and tell me how the steps went.

Also attach a new log from ShowNew and a new log from GetRunKey.

Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

Reminder Note: Once we have determined you are malware free you will need to disable System Restore, reboot, and re-enable system restore per step 1 of the READ & RUN ME. This only applies to if using WinXP or WinMe.

    wow, everything is finally smooth!!
I can't believe I forgot to install the sunJava. OOPS!

I ran smitfraud in SM-worked fine
I could not find "C:\Documents and Settings\Heather\lyfnxokk.exe" in the HJT processes.
    I found 'O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [gwiz] C:\WINDOWS\system32\ntsystem.exe"
but did not find "O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Windows installer] C:\winstall.exe"
I deleted all the files except C:\winstall.exe, as it wasn't there
I deleted the prefetch files, ran CC, and reset the web settings.

Here are the scans you requeted.
I will keep my fingers crossed. Thank you so much for your help!!

I just go an error message saying the computer recovered from a critical error.
I am attaching the error info.
I sent the error report and it says it was caused by the intel graphics. So I will check for an updated driver. I just wanted you to see the error message to make sure it wasn't related to anything else that was going on.

    Thanks again

This is not related to the malware problems.

Your logs are clean. If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to go back to step 1 of the READ & RUN ME to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points. Then reboot and enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.

After that, you should work thru the below link:
