cant rename wordpads or RTDocs

hi guys I need to keep it short as I lose my connection??? I dont know??
computer specs WinXP sp2 intel P-4 at 3.0 GHZ SATA HD mostly up to date
all windows updates minus 2-3 Giga-byte GA-81945P-G

problem is in second admin account I cannot create and rename wordpads or RTDocs because I get an error when I rename " If you change the file type the file may become unusable???" who said I wanted to change the file type I am just renaming the file. Cannot open the file without another program in windows to help open the file.....any ideas??????

When you go to rename a file you will get that warning if you are trying to change the extension, or you forget to type the extension.
As long as you have typed the SAME extension, you should have no problem renaming ANY file.
Did you mean .rtf ?

 

Hi I am posting this solution for any other Peeps that have the same problem. I opened a folder and went to the tools >folder options>then clicked on the view tab> then scrolled to hidden files and folders where I clicked "Show hidden files and folders" and unchecked "hide extentions for known files types" also unchecked "hide protected operating system files" now this will create the problem of trying to rename files and you get the warning that the files may become unusable if you change the file name. the solution is to reverse the settings as stated above. my appologies to you guys for taking you time up.
