Can't repair XP install on DEll as keyboard won't work

Hi, I've had major problems with my Dell dimension 3100.
1. infected with virtumondo -tried to clean up xp as recommended in this site
2. part way through -keyboard stopped working (USB only), couldn't log in
3. tried to do repair with XP disc, keyboard still not working, therefore can't input activation key

Completely knackered a 2 year old fab computer

Any ideas out there?

 

Sorry no can do, that's the thing with DEll, no socket for older keyboards.

 

I tried putting it in another DELL I have and I got a Stop blue screen, wouldn't even let me try and reinstall on it.

I'm not worried about files as I've got them on portable hard drives.

Dell don't supply you with discs anymore , but a friend gave me XP pro.
Problem is can't get keyboard to work when in microsoft restore, then asked to input activation key - Can't type it.

Why do I get a blue screen in other dell, and is there anything I can do from there?

Sorry everyone that I am posting in wrong area, not had time to look and see how to do it correctly, using other peoples PC's to check this.

 

Relented and tried a Vista disk I had, it seems to be loading and the mouse and keyboard are working in that environment so far.
Although I didn't want Vista, it is better than no computer at all.rolleyes
